i saw and add for the following bands:
"john cougar concentration camp"
"brian jonestown massacre"
that's just funny to me.

the band i work for is "tommy rivers and the raw ramps" we took the name from a t-rex song but then i did some investigating. a ramp, other than the obvious conclusion is a root-like vegetable like an onion of garlic. so in reality, we are "tommy rivers and raw garlic". go to www.notlame.com or www.garageband.com and check us out.

No, it isn't a Zappa cover band. I think Frank copped that lyric off of a TV commercial from the 70's that I sort of remember from my childhood. To be honest, I don't have the talent to do justice to Zappa's great music. Some of that is pretty busy complicated stuff....I play garage rock covers, like the Stooges, MC5, Vaselines, etc., and some similarly veined originals. I did just go see "Project Object" which is a band of some of the remaining Mothers......absolutely superb!!!!!.....even if you aren't a big Zappa fan.

Highly recommended. Great bass player too......the guy looks about 21.....plays like he has been at it longer than he has. Kids.....sheesh!

It may not be the best band name, but my band went from the worst band name to at least a decent one. We were:

The Jazzernauts (we don't play jazz and we're not astronauts).

We are now: The Rhythm Doctors (5 of the 8 of us are doctors and we play Motown, R&B and classic rock)

So I'd say we have the "Most Improved" band name at least.

A band my friends at Action Music have is called Fingercuff, they rock but the name is so reminicent of South Park (thier guitarist even wears a Fingerbang South Park shirt when doing a show with this group).

Others in my area:

The Amazing Flying Earwigs

Visual Paradox (terrible group from my old high school, graduated a year before me so they are more than likely disbanded due to different schools, they didn't even have a bassist, said they didn't need it for metal)

The many I have been in:

Flaming Swords (jazz-rock: I was on keyboars then, disbanded 4 years ago)

I See the Future (parody/novelty: lasted one month)

Dreamer's Realm (prog, jazz, chamber music: same members as 'I See the Future' lasted five months until my sister who was the lead guitarist was killed in a car accident in May)

Monocle (same as above: my drummer took over on guitar and we found a new drummer, then the guitarist went back to drums and we got a new guitarist, from May of 2004 to present, currently on a break do to college work)

Captain Mike and His First Mate Ashton (reggea, bassa-nova, tropical: an acoustic two man group with myself and my drummer from Monocle (Ashton). I play acoustic bass guitar and piano here and he plays acoustic guitar. We only do winter shows mostly Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley.)

Very funny thread! I recall hearing that the Stone Temple Pilots once did a name change, and in keeping with the S T P initials called themselves Shirley Temlpe's Pu**y.
