FWIW in my metal bands I use my Peavey BAM 210 to model an SVT but use no cab modeling: the BAM's speakers and horn give me a much more defined sound than the modeled 8x10 cab. I boost highs and lows and cut the low honky mids. It gives me the metal sound I like, something along the lines of Jimmy Bain's sound on those first couple of Dio records.
I've heard others say that to get the best metal sound out of an SVT, skip the Ampeg cabs and particularly the 8x10 to go for something more focused.
