Best bass for around $2000?

The second bass is just incredible. I'm probably going to get an Ahab 11 string or a Nuvolari 11 string. Thank you so, so much!

It really sounds like you just want to know if anyone wants to back you up on getting a Prometeus bass? While I'm sure someone here has one, it's not a common brand name over here, so we aren't going to be much help. Other than what's on the web, I have no clue about Prometeus basses.

Since you're UK-based, you have access to a few really good manufacturers on your home turf. Status, JayDee, and Wal to name a few. What are the UK metal guys playing?

Alex Webster(Cannibal Corpse)plays Spectors, Nolly Getgood(Periphery)plays Dingwalls, John Myung(Dream Theater)is playing Musicman basses. Point is, if you have a decent bass, and you're a decent player, you should be metal enough.

Oh, deleting this thread would NOT be the worst idea ever...good luck to you, my man.

No apologies needed! I'm just trying to help you figure out what it is that you're looking for.

You seem to be gravitating towards a custom, but just keep in mind what I said earlier about knowing what you want.
You're going to have to specify a lot of small details for the build. Body wood, neck wood, fretboard wood, number of strings, string spacing, nut width, fret size, pickup locations, pickup style, active or passive, if active...what preamp, etc.
In the end once the build is complete, if it's not what you want you might have a tough time selling it or getting even close to what you paid for it.

I think the first step is figuring out how many strings you actually want. You've mentioned more than 4, a good 4, 11, and possibly something else that I missed. Obviously there is a big difference there.

I can't help you out with Prometeus, I've honestly never even heard of them and I'm a gear nut.

Ah, well thanks! The thing is, I've already got a fairly incredible four string, so I'll probably buy an eleven string, wait a few years, then pick up another four string. I understand that I need to carefully plan every detail and measurement, so I was just wondering if anyone had brand ideas. I'm sure that an experienced luthier would be able to make something to my specs. I completely get what you're saying about going custom, which is why I'm spending a lot of time researching.

you need to be more specific,what particular sub genre of metal? Melodic death metal? I love that genre name hehe.
Sorry for being out of touch, for me, metal is playable on a Jazz or a P, I can get any sound out of both those. I play Iron Maiden, Led Zep, Sabbath, Tool, SOAD type stuff, not the thrashy stuff so much. Edumacate me :)

Love those bands that you mentioned and I totally agree that you can play metal with just about any bass. I thinking along the lines of today's metal styles and it's 10 000 sub genres. The majority of those players seem to be using today's more modern sounding basses (Warwicks, Spectors, Ibanez) not so much for the sound but for the look whether we like it or not. A jazz bass might look too vintage and passé to them.

Same reason why you wouldn't show up for a jazz audition with a Gene Simmons axe bass. :D

yeah I get what you're saying. I guess a lot of these new shapes are also active which affects their tone a lot.

PS I'd LOVE to show up to a jazz audition with a Simmons bass, but I wouldn't be worthy of an audition hehe

The Tobacco Sunburst Jazz 4str. Is the most Iconic Bass out there everyone. I just performed with mine(2002' Amer.FenderJazz) just like the picture with ClassicStax's installed. This guy was a Tourist said you wanna Sell that. I said NOPE.he offered me to start with $3,000.00, l said not for sale. He kept raising his offer, l told him, l will make a call and get back to him. I just had the same thing with my Amer.Fender Jazz 5 str. Same set up Tobacco Sunburst with Duncan HotStax pick-ups in it. Offered 3,000.00 for it.l must be doing something right. He offered me a Job with a rather famous person. Nope not telling, that's braggin' and l won't do that. For a grand, you can have a Fender. John

Yeah, I'm calling shenanigans on this one. If those offers were really made, they should have been taken in a heartbeat, unless you were having mercy on the poor intoxicated soul who made them. Maybe you kept them for sentimental reasons though, I don't know. Either way, I'm still guessing the fish...er...the offer wasn't that big. :)

To be fair, I wouldn't sell my Westone Thunder I for less than like £2.5k. It has SO much sentimental value but it only cost me £125, so I can kinda see where this guy was coming from :D
