Best bass for around $2000?

I appreciate what you are saying, the guy that made the offer was just a collector with way to much money. I don't have a mere 8 or 9 bills, including the Duncan Pick-ups, l'm a cheap Bastardo. But it is a Great Bass. So is my 5 string Fender. They do what l want them to do, thanks for the Response, John

I love my Pushic....I'm selling everything else. The feel, the sound and the looks are phenominal IMHO. I always get compliments from clientele, band mates and sound engineers.

I had a 7 string Conklin gt7 which I had set up f#beadgc and swapped the stock electronics out for an Aguilar pre and Delano pickups which is a setup you can get with custom conklins. it was a cool bass and sounded great after electronics upgrades but my issue with it was it was just really heavy. Didn't mind playing it sitting down and it wasn't unbearably heavy for me but my showmanship onstage really suffered with it playing standing up. The guy I sold it to said the same thing. "Sounded great but it's too heavy" and he's already sold it.

If I got another 7 Id probably go Warwick custom shop and try to keep it as light as possible.

If I wanted more than 7 Id probably get Benevente.

But I doubt I ever will. rarely ever used all the range at once.its a novelty thing really people are like wow what's that? But It's makes more sense to have a couple instruments in different tunings imo. For example you can get a 5 string bass and a bass vi or have a bass setup with piccolo strings and have all the range of a 7 string bass. I personally like double course basses (8 string 4x2) (10 string 5x2) because think sound a lot better in the higher register because it's a thicker sound than playing a single unwound high string on a Erb. The high unwound strings on those basses are really only useful for solo stuff like Jean Baudin and Scott Fernendez and others do. In a band mix they pretty much disappear which is the main reason I had my 7 set up f#beadgc.

Go Fender Am Std or Lakland Skyline and pocket the difference to spend on other things. I've gone through Mike Lull, Sadowsky, Roscoe and although they ARE nice, they're not not "double" nice. I prefer passive basses so that is a factor, I guess.

Can't go wrong with any. All very high quality instruments. Never played a Valenti, though he makes some incredible looking instruments. I loved my Sadowsky Metro MV4. Had it for about 5 years. However, I decided that I was more of a passive guy and after buying my US Lakland BG(44-64), I knew I needed a JO(44-60). No regrets, but I did love my Sadowsky.
I think some of the best deals out there are used US Laklands and used Mike Lull's. But, you really can't go wrong with an Fender American Standard either. Sorry, this really didn't help. There are so many kick a$$ basses out there that it's really all about preference.

That MTD Norm Stockton signature thread from a while back still makes me drool every time I even think of it. One of those, and the Roy Vogt Kiesel, and my GAS might just be satisfied (for today). :D

Seriousl almost any bass (in my humble opinion) around that price range would be great.

It goes back to (once again my humble opinion) that once you get past a certain price point with these instruments they're all very similar with each other because the level of workmanship & quality has to be fairly level across the board for bass manufacturers to compete with each other.

In other words: brand "A" $2,000 dollar bass isn't going to be 50 or 100 times better than brand "B" $2,000 dollar bass.

Good luck with whatever you decide, I'm sure it will be nice.

The American Standard jazz Bass is one of the finest instruments ever made. And less the $2k. Unless your going Custom Shop (Master Built) or Alembic you can't beat it.
