Best bass for my needs under $2600?

First off, i want to thank everyone for taking the time to post here with their suggestions and for everyone's concern about my spending issue. lol I also want to apologize, as i didn't even think about it but, the OP makes me sound like a total case. Without getting into too much personal information i will be coming into a lot of money soon and i will be putting most of it away, while the rest or at least a percentage of it i will be able to spend on myself.

I put the budget i did up as it covered some custom work, however after seeing some of the choices you guys have recommended, there are some really nice basses that I can find that would seem to be more than adequate.

Not every great bassist uses a custom bass, that shouldn't even be a question, technique over how great your instrument is, allegedly. I understand that, i think I just got in over my head with the thought of wanting to "treat" myself with my first major purchase.

I can see though there are much better ways financially to accomplish my goal. With that being said i will list the choices i am leaning most towards.

Spector Euro 5 LX
Sadowsky Metroline M5-24
Lakland Skyline Deluxe 55-02
Warwick (Was looking into the Streamer NT1 5 or a Corvette model)
Music Man Sterling /StingRay 5

So far the Euro is my favorite of the above choices. I love its look and sound.

Of course there is also the Rickenbacker 4003, which i know is only a 4-string but the look and sound of that thing amazes me.

So the Spector and the Ric are my two top choices right now, but really leaning towards that 5th string. Plus it seems the Spector's are getting a lot of recommendations.

With all that being said the Spector is probably a couple more recommendations away from being what I will more than likely go with. Unless someone can really convince me that one of the others i listed are better for what I plan to do. Or if someone suggests something that I have yet to see that pulls me in more than the Spector has so far.

I would look into Schecter basses. They are very good instruments, and defiantly fit into your budget.

for $2600 you can get three really good basses used and be able to cover pretty much any musical playing style or genre.

I've owned a couple 4001's and wanted to like them so much, but could never get along with them

New Ric 4003's are going for $1500. You could get a used EBMM Stingray 5 and a new Ric for under $2600 and have both your 4 and 5 string needs addressed. And also have a ton of options for your style/tone

In place of the Sadowsky I might suggest looking into a Valenti. Nino's a TBer and has worked for Sadowsky in the past. He can build you a killer bass under that $2600 price. You can pick your pickups, preamp, bridge, color, style.... check it out

YOu know the other side of the question and it is a big one, is what AMP are you using, this will have every bit as much effect on what sound you get as the bass, the bass is only half the equation. Of course how well (or not) you play is another huge piece of the puzzle.

For $2.600?! Really? I'd say just about anything to be honest.

Ok I'll be admittedly biased here. A Carvin XB75 with an HB pickup in the bridge position. I own a LB76 with dual HB's (these are Ernie Ball style humbuckers) and it could easily cover d'jent (stupid name) although with the drop tuning that is common in that style, the extended scale length would be a good idea. My buddy has an XB76 fretless and to be honest I didn't even really notice until I set my bass next to his and realized the bridges were in different positions. Oh and the XB is a 22 fret instead of 24 fret bass.

In truth for the money you're talking about you could get just about anything.

I would give Tom Clement (clementbass.com) an email if you want something custom built. I believe you want an active preamp with passive pickups though, some of the basses mentioned here have active pickups like the Spectors and some Warwicks.

Go used! Almost endless options. My choice would be a Stingray 5. You can get a used with plenty for spare and then a quality 2nd bass. (Warwick Corvette) and still have change. But the stingray gives you a growl and also is very versatile

Ok, so I am not going to lie. I am falling in love with the Spector Euro 5 LX right now...My search is by no means over yet, but for now the Spector is something that will stick in my mind.

I would get TWO Carvin's for that money, an SB4000 and an SB5000. The SB5000 alone would compete with most basses in the 2500 range, and beat some of them.

I like Schecters too and you can buy 4 of them for 2600 bucks! Not really high-end instruments though, but very good rock basses for not much coin.

Going to get into talks with Rob C. again about possibly doing some work for me. Was going to go to him before but things happened and i had to fall back from everything. Though now seems like a great time to check back in. That is just the latest update. I will see where things go from there. =]
