Best bass for slap?

Anyone have an opinion on the best slap bass? I have a Zon and it is among the best I have tried (though the Legacy Elite model I had was better than the one I have now), but I don't get to try a lot of different models around here.
Any bass handcrafted with "EMG" pickups, "ebony" fingerboard and "zebrawood" body.
Try that combination and you will love it

I'd say a Kubicki Ex-Factor...

I lvoe the tone they give for everything, but ht epunch and response when slapping is so good. I find mode 2 to be very good for this, it has so much bottom yet still such definition, I love it!

Vail Johnson and Stuart Hamm are very good examples of guys using the Kubicki tone for slap. I'm not sure, but Vail's tone seems a bit more like mine than Stu's does (but that might change when I swap my Ashdown setup for a Trace Elliot head+Hartke 4x10 with aluminium cones).

My Jerzy Drozd is set up with really low action which i like for slapping, and it's a very clear and focused sound. It's quite a contrast to a bass like a warwick with a thick, meaty sound. I slap kind of wierd though, so it might sound different in someone else's hands.

My old Warrior was probably my fav for slapping, or rather popping the d and g. The neck sat elevated from the body at just at the right point to get your finger under there and stablize it for a great sounds. With nice deep clear contrast slapping on lower strings.. not to mention that SD slap circuit mmm

Spectors are great but my US NS-4 never had the poping contrast of the Warrior. Just deep juicy grumbles, still great sound though.

I really love the sound of the Pedulla buzz series, awesome fretless sound.

The Benavente I had had a good sound, but not very much of a growl or warmess just some good thump and nice contrast, it was an older model though, and still an outstanding instrument. Probably my favorite on fingerstyle, the neck on that thing smoked.

Pre EB MM's are probably my fav vintage slap sound, alot phatter sounding than j's or p's IMO

I like recordings I've heard from Alembics, but have never gotten a sound I like from them in person. Alot of the sound has to do with the player being able to feel out the instrument and I guess me and Alembics just dont vibe.. ok I'll stop now :smug:

When it comes to slapping (or fingerstyle, or tapping for that matter), my Skjold is a hoss. :bassist:

I agree. My slap technique blows (never really spent any time at it), but even I sound fairly decent slapping on my Skjold (though I do prefer fingerstyle).

Another great sounding slap bass is the Celinder J Update 5.

Tom.

Okay, it's time to stop the madness.
Just about any bass (except maybe a Hofner Beatle Bass) will sound good slapped, if you're willing to work at it... proper technique, proper strings, proper amp settings, etc.:rollno:
All this navel-gazing is driving me up the wall!:ninja:
