best bass head survey??

THE BEST BASS AMP?

Sheesh! That's easy!

To the north there lies a cave, the cave of Kyre Banorg, wherein, carved in mystic runes upon the very living rock, the last words of Ulfin Bedweer of Regett proclaim the last resting place of the best bass amp. Within the cave, the carving reads, "Here may be found the last words of Joseph of Aramathea. He who is valiant and pure of spirit may find the best bass amp in the Castle of uuggggggh."

Hahahah, now thats funny.

But seriously, my vote would have to go to Eden. i have owned SWR, GK, Hartke, Peavey and when I got my Eden I was blown away. I have the David Eden WT600 with an Ampeg 410 HLF classic. Really good combo and works great for me. Also, if you might look into combos, I have an Eden 210 combo "The Metro" that also sounds great that I use for smaller gigs.

which brand makes the Loudest amps?
which brand has the best features? what are they?
which brand offers the best tone shaping? versatility!
which brand has the best visual styling?
which brand offers the best value for money?

There is no right or wrong way to answer these questions, it would all be personal opinion.

Loudest: Depends on too many variables. More speakers usually = louder, but you need to take other things into consideration as well.

Best Features: Another subjective opinion. Do you like a lot of knobs or only a few? Some players prefer a very simple amp, others want something that looks like the cockpit of a spaceship.

Best Tone Shaping: What one person likes for a tone another is going to hate. I suspect you'll get a lot of Genz Shuttle responses. I happen to think that tone is in the fingers. I can get a wide variety of tones just by altering the way I play.

Best Visual Styling: Not sure what this has to do with anything. If you gave me what I consider my perfect tone in the ugliest looking thing I've ever seen, I'd love it and play the crap out of it proudly. If you gave me the worst sounding amp in the best looking chassis ever, I'd never go near it.

Best Value: Everybody has a different idea of value. The used market has far more value than new.

My GK 800RB really did it for me. Loud, clear, and unbreakable. It was the only piece of musical equipment I've ever owned that I was able to sell for more then I bought it for. I'm really sorry I sold it when my 2x12 crapped out, but I'm sure one day another will find it's way back into the fold.

Genz Benz and Eden for me, although Mesa is fine. In terms of "loud" I think the TC Blacksmith is probably the loudest production amp around right now, but if you want it really really loud a pre w/ power amp solution is the way to go. Really, there is no answer to your question, only opinions. From personal experience I prefer Eden and Genz Benz.

Carvins performance per dollar ratio is as high or higher than anybody’s. The B2000 and the BX1500 are top-shelf amplifiers with power/options/features that leave most others in the dust. The BX500 micro amps only comp in its price range is the Ampeg PF-500, a worthy adversary. Actually Ampeg’s new SVT-7 Pro head is quite a beast (1000w) for around 700 bucks.

Sure just drop a wet blanket on the whole topic, Buzz Killington….

:hmm:

i have to be honest, i am very disapointed with some of the jumped up responses so far on here, i asked for opinions, of course the subject is subjective, there is no such thing as the all time definitive BEST AMP, but there are reasons that all the amps mentioned so far are the best choice for an individual, thats what i asked for, just opinions, and reasons for those opinions would be good, but instead some get a kick out basicly poo pooing a great subject.

constructive comments i like, put downs i dont, if you cant say something good why say anything at all..

rant over, thankyou to those have put their opinions so far, more details about what styles of music you use your choice amp for would be good, maybe some brands are better (tonally) at some styles than others.

While I did my best to be helpful, great subject it is not. Invite to fights, flames, and trolls, yes. :eyebrow:
Sorry JMHO. ;)
