Best Bass under $1000

The older TBC's the mass produced ones. I own one. They are a great instrument, handmade in the USA. New, back in the day they would go from about 400 to 800. I got mine for under $400, $600 if it were still being made it would run for about $600 new. Try to find one, damn nice instruments.

I'm presuming that the intent of this question was for the price of a new bass. It is a tad unfair to list used basses as the price can vary so much depending on so many factors. Obviously, the best deals can be had on used gear, and also some of the worst deals. BTW, was this for a 4, 5, or 6 string? Is resale value of any consideration? I'd like to try one of those ugly Reverend's at some point to see what the deal is.

If you're refering to the Brian Moore, yes you can get them for that price.

I've had one for about a month and humm...
It had no highs You could only lows, lows and lows. And that is a "No No" cutting through.

The construction is impecable and if you don't mind the lows thing...

This one was a 5 string and had a pretty nice Low B. Better than my Bass Collection.

The Washburn Taurus ABT looks like a contender to me. I wish that I had seen that thing sooner, it has some sweet specs, and it comes in at less than $500. Although I just spent $699 on a Lakland Skyline 55-01, the specs on that thing really sold me.

ah to answer that question before about how many strings, I posted this thread and poll outta curiousity, you know, cuz I've been wondering what new and unused bass is prefered by a lot of people under the $1000 line.

I'll put in another vote for G&L. I have an L2000 that I got new from bass North West for $850 when they were having a special sale on them. but they normally go for somewhere in the $900 unless it has a lot of special upgrades.

yea, I got my L2500 for 1200..the finish and stuff like that added a bit to the price, but since it is possible to get a new and unused one for just barely under $1000(with the exception of employee discounts and stuff like that[my buddy got his L2000 for 750, NEW!]}.

I love this bass, it's solid, versatile, and the only way to get it out of tune is by moving the knobs.

Well..for a 5 string, a Lakland Skyline 55-02 can be had for right around a grand, and a 55-01 for quite a bit less. If you like a four, or more of a vintage vibe, a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborne, Bob Glaub, or Daryl Jones. All can be had new for less than a grand.

I am pleased with my Carvin and the Fenders just under a grand are nice, but if you can get a Rick for under a grand go for it....GREAT BASS. I paid 950 for my carvin and I LOVE IT!

Got a friend at GC picked up a Spector Rebop 5 Natural Oil for under $800.00. Sweet bass! I second the Rick if you can find one under a $1000, I own one of those too, they are my main axes. Peace

At a local shop near me you can get a Warwick Corvette for $800. Thats my vote.

Copley is a custom shop out of Nashville that makes some decent basses (prices range from $1200 - $1500)...and...when he's got overstock, he throws them up on ebay...so I picked up my custom 5-string new for $370. Not bad.

But, best bass for sale retail under $1000 - gotta be the Rick.

Really? I saw some on ebay and assumed (by the price) that it was some cheap brand ala rogue.

Spector NS4(CRFM)/NS5CRFM models. Nothing in that price range even competes. Or close to it! You'll now see them referred to as "Euro" models, as both ReBop's and (used to be called) Czech (the neck-through models w/ the inlays) are Czech made. I'm having this same problem with some people in a different thread, so make sure and get all the Spector-naming right.
