Best budget 5 string

+1

However, they are hard to find, and you may have to bid high and fast to snag one. I tried nearly a half dozen times, and finally did "the buy it now" dance for $550. Ouch. I guess it's all in the fingers.....LOL!

Pics coming as soon as it arrives.

Here is a taste of passive MTD 5er tone:

This features Anthony Nembhard, who is also on GospelChops vol. 1 :D

+1 also.
The new MTD Kingston Saratoga (J-bass) will come in a 5-string, I don't have a sense of retail pricing yet, but I heard the 4-stringer supposed to street around $550.

This thing looks hella sharp for $290 new.

So lots of good inexpensive 5'ers mentioned as per the OP's question. I'll be looking at them myself.

Not meant to hi-jack, but which one truly has the least wide neck? Are not most in the 1.65" - 1.75" at the nut range? Which is less than that? And does racheting it up to E,A,D,G,C change the tensions so much it will tweak the neck?

haven't seen one under 1.65 [metric equivalent thereof... call it 40-45mm]. i don't see the point in the tuning change, but you would want to change the string gauge... not sure they make a complete 5''er set for that purpose. someone else here will know

The former question, I'd like to hear the answer to as well.

I've recently bought one of these, I'm so impressed with the deep & high tones you can get out of this bass! I own a Peavey Millennium BXP 5 string, which sounds great loaded with decent strings, but this bass kills it. Go check it out, you will be impressed with the build also!
