the white and black was an export model.. and no one wanted them.. so they were in the pawnshops in london.. the pickups we're suppose to be bad in that serious.. so of course the thing no one wanted became.. thee punk bass.. dee dee saw it in the fender catalog.. and they just pretty gave him their overstock.. in those days they we're 250 bucks.. in the 80's dee dee would sweat though the basses..

Having 'come alive' in the punk age I don't think it mattered all that much to the real punks. You made do with what you had. I had a Gibson EB0 that I got from a guy who played top 40 hits like 'Daydream Believer'. I really liked the look, still do but the neck dive is inexcusable.
Eventually you began to realize that certain amps and certain instruments were better than others and if you had more gigs and connections, you could zero in on more reliable means of delivery. When we started out, we used a Fender Bandmaster and a 212 cab that I had as our PA. LOL!!! If I still had that amp it would be worth a lot of $$. You got a better day job so you could get better stuff.
Nothing has changed as far as I can see. Disagree? Let me know. Maybe it's different now in the 2020's

my custom made J bass with 51 style headstock does the trick!!
Been playing punk for over 20 years. The best color is anything you can get your hands on and cover in stickers. Then you get older and pretentious and GAS takes over and you end up with as many bright obnoxious colors as you can.....and black.
