Best Colour for Punk Bass

I just don't get it sometimes. As old guard, these sorts of questions seem so vapid to me. I blame the "is this punk" mentality on the mass marketing of pseudo-punk brought to you by mall clothing chains and radio/top 40 "punk"...

The right color for a punk bass is whatever color is on the cheapest bass you find on Craigslist. If it has rusted strings and buzzes, extra credit.

If you put stickers on it, you don’t use them to cover the scars - you use them to cover the places that don’t have scars (yet).

If at all possible, you want the strings to be so old that they no longer intonate. Maybe with one newer string, because one broke, and you didn’t change the whole set.

I bought what I could afford and LOTS OF STICKERS.
No case either, you go to a gig with your bass in a garbage bag ( I was embarrassed by it until I saw a pic of the Ramones doing it)

If I think back to the start of the punk movement, I start to wonder if terms like “old guard” derail the concept in the first place.

Nobody was thinking deep thoughts about it, or planning subdivisions like proto-punk, Neo-punk or post-punk.

If anything, wasn’t it a snotty, pissed-off rejection of something,rather than trying to cling to a time or a style?

I was never a punk, and have no horse in this race. But clinging to a period or a style seems just as anti-punk as posting pictures of pretty, brand new basses in pastel colors.

Anything from the anarchical side of the color spectrum will suffice.
As a result, it will never be the color you choose.

Where you're coming from is solid.
I'd lean more to: worrying if something is punk and/or vocally identifying as such is quite the opposite of the original concept. As far as "clinging" to something, time-period or style aside, there are some core concepts one can never outgrow.

If you are worrying about what your bass looks like, then you're buying into some middle-class, faux-punk aesthetic, capitalist worldview (and that makes you a sellout!)

I see I'm not the only guy who immediately thought pink upon reading the title to the thread. Other choices, of course, black or white. The rest doesn't matter, as the bass will be customized with stickers, physical modifications, and premature aging of all sorts.

I painted mine "toothpaste" green because everyone I knew had a black or white bass, more black than any other color and I wanted something different. I didnt really put a lot of thought into the color, I just wanted something unusual and not black or white.
