While I'm firmly in the 'real' pedal camp, I think that a multi is a good way to experiment with what the effect(s) will basically sound like from a specific pedal. My BP80 makes a decent headphone amp, also.

Actually, that could be played both ways, Jordan.
I started with a multi-effect, and it's not a bad way to start with effects. The quality won't be the same as with the analog/individual counterparts necessarily, but it will introduce you to signal chains, tweaking, and just seeing if you like playing with effects in general.
However, if you were with a band looking for a very, very targeted sound, the one pedal is a good avenue. IMO, and IME.![]()
I think that depends on which multi-effects unit you buy. The cheaper ones will definitely be different, but the ones like the Boss GT-10B have IMO/IME very good effects. I've done a lot of research lately on the Boss GT-6B as well and those also seem to have good quality sounding effects in them for the most part. The lesser expensive products like the Zoom 506 and Digitech BP200 seem to lack in quality IMO/IME.
