Best Flatwound Strings?

Changed my mind about RotoSound Jazz Bass 77's. I gave them a second try and they sound pretty good--bright and clanky enough to sound like rounds when I want, otherwise a solid tone you'd expect from flats, though not as thumpy as LaBellas. They do have a bit higher tension than the other flats I've used.

Tell you what my TI's were singing sweet this past Saturday at a gig. I think I finally found the bass that is perfect for them a 08' MIA P bass.
I had them on other P basses but this bass was born for this 5+ year old set. Wonderful tone and notes jumped off the strings.

I dislike Chromes. They were my first and only set of flats for a long time. But recently I got thump fever and dropped the dough on some LaBella Deep Talkin' Bass flats. Holy cow. A world of difference from the Chromes. I'll have to see how they break in, but for now the LaBella's are staying put.

My Am. Std. P sounds GREAT with Fender Light Gauge flats. (chromes) Once they settle it and mellow out it's magical. I have the same strings on my Fender Kingman ABG too. On my MTD 6 string I have Labella Deep Talkin' Flats. Both sets are very rich sounding... they are great in a band mix too.

I've used TI Jazz Flats and Chromes. I loved the TI's, best feeling string I've ever used. But be warned, they are very "loose". You might need to raise your action some.

The Chromes are good too. A compromise between a "thuddy" flat and a bright round. I have them on my P5 and I can roll off the treble a bit and get a nice old school tone or run the tone wide open and get that P bass growl.

Here's my standard line on these (my thoughts apply equally to DR Legends flats, which I also really like):

1. Excellent feel, smoothest, nicest to-the-touch flats (to me)
2. Warm, articulate, tone without the boing of Chromes or TIs
3. Tension: using standard (.105 to .045) or light gauge, the tension of these strings sits right between Chromes on the stiff end (.105 to .045) and the standard gauge TIs (.100 to .040, I believe)

Caveat: I play a Jazz, and I'm coming to think that if you play a Precision the sound of Chromes and TIs might work better with that pick up configuration, but until I get another Precision I won't be able to test the idea first hand.

Caveat: My fave roundround strings are the DR Sunbeams. I like the warmer sound of nickel.
