so I’ve recently come back to playing bass and soon will start gigging, and am in need of an amp. I’m pretty settled on GK, always played through them and love the tone. I’m looking at picking up a 700rb-ii. I love the sound of it through the silver grate GK neo 4x10: punchy, bright, and really cuts through the mix, and flexible enough to cover a multitude of other genres. There’s just one problem with that cab… it doesn’t fit in my car! (I know I know) At 18.5” deep, it doesn’t make it into the trunk. Front/back seat isn’t an option.
This… unique dilemma has sent me down a rabbit hole of other amp options, but I keep coming back to the 700rb. I’ve tried some big ampegs and the guitar center specials: smaller ampegs, fender rumbles, mark bass, and my friend’s GK MB210 combo. The closest sounding is the MB210, but it’s missing that extra grit, clarity and punch the 700rb+neo 4x10 have.
I’m thinking a CX410 cab for the RB might be the way to go. It’s ceramic, but at 14.5” deep, it would fit in the car. I don’t have a way to play it though as there’s none available locally. I’m wondering, does anyone have experience with a 700rb+cx410?What other cabs (if any) should I consider that have that same clarity and punch as the Neo 4x10 that would pair well with the rb and are less than 16” deep?
Easiest option would be to sell the current car and get something else that fits the neo of course, but let’s hold off on that.
