Best Heavy Metal Album Ever!

Reign in Blood had one or two song worth listening to, that is it. Never got into Megadeth(singer turns me off to much to even listen to it), but love their bassist or former bassist David Ellefson.

I can't say I particularly enjoy Slayer, but different strokes for different folks.

You can't really say the "best" album though. Although it's arguably the most aggressive music style out there, it's still not a contest.

RIB is a great album, and if i hadnt listened to it a billion times in the eighties i might still listen to it. the last 3 songs which all run together is pretty amazing. But slayer is nowhere near the top of metal bands, esp now.
obviously Opeth is the best but not including them...
the first two entombed albums are amazing.
but if your just talking metal and not death, black, thrash whatever then

you cant listen to Age of Winters without turning it up.

John, that's absolutely awesome and QUITE impressive.

I'm gonna give my current top five.

Repulsion- Horrified. Seminal grindcore with the best lo-fi detuned bass fuzz EVER. Squier P-bass into an orange Boss DS-1, right into the board.

Atheist- Unquestionable Presence. Any "metal" bassist must own this. Proof that "tasteful" and "technical" can in fact apply simultaneously to a band.

Gorguts- Obscura. You've never heard something simultaneously this cohesive or bizarre when it comes to death metal.

Jesu- Silver. Sublime, poppy, serene, and....tuned to drop-A.

Only Living Witness- Prone Mortal Form. Find me one vocalist today whose voice is as raw, genuine, melodic and whose lyrics are as cryptically literate as Jonah Jenkins. This record grooves and their bass player has total Dave Ellefson tone...with his fingers.

Wow, if you don't mind me asking, what's wrong with Dave Mustaine as a singer? He's certainly no Bruce Dickinson, but I've always thought Mustaine did a more than adequate job singing for Megadeth. His singing adapts well to different songs (everything from his sarcastic, biting tone in Peace Sells to the emotion in In My Darkest Hour) and helped define Megadeth's music a lot.

I do agree with Sepultura - Roots. That must be in the top 10 of metal albums.

I was beginning to think nobody would mention them, I cant stop listening to the new one right now. I dont have a very large collection of metal, but they are the best I've heard so far, can't say I love slayer though, very overrated in my mind.

I don't listen to too much metal anymore, but when I do it is usually Meshuggah. I love their albums (haven't heard Ob Zen, Catch 33, or the rare tracks album) D.E.I. is easily in my Top 10 albums of any genre. I have the original pressing of Nothing (drum machines?). It is a great album.

IMO Iron Maiden have many : Best heavy metal album ever.

Iron Maiden: Iron Maiden, killers, the number of the beast. Power slave from a bass player point of view.

Van Halen also : fair warning, van halle II, van halen

Deep purple: machine head.

Metallica: Master of puppets.

what about: zepplin, wasp, queensryche, judas, ac dc etc...? imo there is not such "best album ever"

Just some phenomenal metal albums, but in reality, JT got it right with Rust In Peace. Metal at it's finest.

Slayer is weird, they are 10% amazing PERFECT metal songs, 90% filler.

Slayer is cool, Metal seems to be have a resurgence again seeing all the ads in Craigslist for young dudes to hook up and make some noise. Growing up in the 80's the Albums that I would say were the best Metal? The Album I remember really sticking out farther than any other was Kill'em All by Metallica, I got to see them play in Vancouver with the original bassist...
