Best High Output Light Weight Portable Amps

Hi everybody.

I am planning on buying an high powered portable amp in the near future.

I am favoring the following features:

- High powered;
has to be able to power 2 Ampeg 810 SVT cabs if need be, so has to be able to support 2homs loads...

-light weight and small, portable,
it will sit on top of my Ampeg 810 + SVT head at shows... it's meant to be a spare amp, but may find it's way into a smaller gig's set up in the long term future... I don't want to stack another big head on my SVT head as I find this too dangerous on the occasional very shaky stages... (My current spare head is a Traynor Custom Special (YBA-3) and as much as I love the tone, it's just too big,heavy and scary to put the thing way up there on my stack on shaky stages...)

- Reliable,
it has to be of great quality as it's gonna be a spare head and I have to rely on it.

- Could be solid state or tube amp.
As long as it can deliver for 2 Ampeg SVT 810 cabs, I'm good with that.

- Vintage tone,
not a must, be would be GREATLY appreciated.


What do you guys say ? Is there an amp that could kind of like be able to capture what I'm looking for, or is this utopia ?

The only head Ampeg makes that would fill that bill is the SVT 8 Pro. Not cheap, not exactly a micro, but a pretty state of the art small giant wattage head. But me being cheap, I'd just get two Micro VR's and chain them together from the effects loop

Not real high power, but a Mesa Walkabout would sound great.

The Shuttlemax 12.0/.2 would be good for powering 2 810s as you could run 1 off each channel but if you want a more vintage vibe the Streamliner 900 would fit the bill aside from its 4 ohm min. load (can't run both 810s)

If it's just a backup amp, why does it need to power two 810s?

Genz Streamliner 900 would be great, but it only does a 4 ohm load.

I have spotted a Fender 800 Pro head,I'm tempted, it's 35lbs... I know, not exactly light weight, but I may give in, I don't know, I'll have to try it.

The ability to run at 2homs is a real plus for me, as I want to be able to power up to 2 4homs 810 cabs (SVT's)...

Has anyone got a idea about how that head performs ?

carvin b2000 is light weight (14 lbs) compared to the svt (80 lbs) and will do 2 ohms. im using it to power my 2 svt 410hlf cabs.

Not light by any means but about half the weight of your svt tube head... vintage acoustic 370 and it will go down to 2ohms I believe so it should power both 810s

Excellent amp, as is the 1200. Under appreciated.
