Best instrument cable for bass?

self made cables also here: canare and neutrik jacks. I have one other store bought cable, a spectraflex, and it sounds muffled compared to the canare cable, crazy because I did not think I would hear a difference
Interesting - what was the difference between the two? I've been thinking about investing some George L's... I've never heard a bad word about em until now. Anybody else have experience w/ these cables--good or bad?

I make my own with 90% shield instrument cable and Neutrik or Rane plugs. Any less shielding and I've got a potential antenna.

I make my own with Neutrik ends and Mogami or Canare cable. Costs less than $15 for a cable that sounds great. The only good thing about Monster is the warranty. The bad thing is that they seem to fail at a pretty high rate. The sound quality is also poor to average. Beyond that, see this for an insight into their business practices:

I had Klotz Lagrange(30€-4,5 meters) ,Schulz(35€-6 meters) and Planet Waves custom pro(35€-3 meters) cables.
Klotz and Schulz are even sounding ,they don t change the sound of bass compare to Planet Waves.Planet Waves boosts low and high frequencies which are little compressed(punchier).Thats because I like Planet Waves.
What I wrote is what I hear and other person my hear different.
So when you are buying better cables take your bass with you and plug it in amp you have at home( If its a chance)or the same maker and compare it .
Its all in your ears.

Canare GS-6 is wonderful stuff for cables, and the capacitance is reasonable.
My new favorite is [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] cable. The PVC jacket on this stuff is nearly indestructible .

it's a monster...take it to a sam ash and say "here, i want a new one". No questions asked you walk out with a new 21 foot monster cable
I've had one Planet Waves cable for nearly ten years, and another for 6. They've both seen hundreds of gigs and rehearsals and are still going strong. I take a spare cable with me, but I've never had to use it.
After working with both Canare and Mogami cable for many years I have to say that I do prefer the GS-6. The shielding is noticeably better and it has a slightly thicker center conductor too. The feel of it, thin and with little/no memory, makes it a very comfortable cable to use and coil up even in a 30' length. Would never snub the Mogami but for the slight price difference I do like the Canare. I have to say that it's been awhile since I have bought an off-the-rack cable as opposed to building my own. I have gone through more Monster returns in my life than I would like to count.... I think I started building cables fixing these on the fly. And if you ever take one apart you will see why they fail.... look at the connector/solder tabs. They have changed the design to new plugs since I last owned one so I cannot comment on that... but seriously. I build cables for local musicians, band members, and myself quickly and reliably. Have never had one come back since I got serious about it 3 years ago or so. Doesn't take a whiz to take a razor blade, an iron, and good quality parts and build a cable significantly cheaper than what you would buy off the rack. Find the guy that does that locally or learn it yourself. You will be much happier in the long run.

If a cable is boosting anything, it is defying physics. I understand perfectly what is being said.
If the poster is wording incorrectly, that is another matter. That cable having fewer losses is one thing, boosting is another thing entirely.

So you are suggesting that the poster supposes that there is an amplifier built into the cable? Perhaps its nanotechnology and it is built in between the copper atoms? You sound more ridiculous than the person you are trying to disagree with.
I have no doubt you understand whats being said, it's your response that I am taking issue with. This is neither a scientific nor a grammatical forums and I think it would be safe to assume the guy is referring to an apparent boost. If you just want to bully ppl perhaps a childrens playground would be a more productive place.
I use a VOX cable...doesn't sound much different than most other cables I've tried. However it has held up extremely well to the constant coil-uncoil and travel to practice and bar gigs. Not a crackle at all 3 years later...

Nothing to do with bullying it is to try and do away with the sentiment that your cable adds something. That line of thinking feeds and works with the snake oil that certain companies use to falsely market equipment.
If people want to remain ignorant to the technical principles then they are in the wrong forum.

Well that is a fine goal. But if that truly is what you are trying to do then you need to give a little more information in your posts than "your cable defies the laws of physics". If you want to inform ppl then inform. Sitting back and just saying "you're wrong" is not very informative.

If they want more information on it, they can do the reading up on it themselves. There is more than enough info on this site alone that a quick search could give. Not to mention it gets somewhat old having to keep retyping the same explaination.

I've found Van Damme leads very good, light, narrow cable with low weight and neutrik connectors, kinda skips about when you move rather than drag across the floor pulling things over, entry level 'high end' if you like, some come with a little velcro strap fixed to the lead, this is really handy, no twisting, no knotting when coiling it up and tying, really useful little add, have done hundreds of gig's with these, never died on me yet.
