Maybe its me but I cant tell the difference in sound between a pair of $3 cables and $100 monster cables.

Best instrument cable for bass?

I like the Planet Waves cables with the built-in breaker. I use it as a mute. I have a straight/straight (backup and loaner) and a straight/ninety that I use almost every day. No complaints.
Go with a CBI Ultimate cable. I've had Monster and Mogambi and the CBI blew them both away for less money. It wasn't my imagination. More clarity in high end and tighter bass.
+1 for Canare GS-6. I also use the Canare F-15 plugs w/spring strain relief... kind of old school looking but very well made. Tougher to solder than Neutriks or G&H's.
Whirlwind Leader for my main, and Bill Lawrence cables for pedalboards and rack patches...hasn't failed me yet.
I use mogami for @ home/studio work, but Livewire Elites when I play out...the Livewire's are braided, so they're durable as crap. I stopped using monsters when I realized they were oversized & were stripping my input jack 
been using the same Live Wire EG10's I bought 10 years ago. I see why they give you a lifetime warranty. They are made for the long haul. I just checked all the solder connections. The copper wire is still bright and shiny, not a hint of oxidation. Made in the USA

I've been pretty happy with my Zaolla cables....I'm sure a lot of ppl would think they're not worth the money.
I found the biggest improvement they offered was in the low end which is something I wasn't really expecting. Very "open" sounding I guess is the only thing I can think to call it. Clear too, but the low end was the most impressive part to me.
Also used some $20 ernie ball cable back in the day. I always though it sounded quite a bit better than regular cables but it was very unreliable.
I once did a comparison between a George L cable and a Zaolla after which I promptly discarded everything George L. I have never heard such a night and day difference in wire. It may have a pleasing sound for some guitarists but for bass it is totally unacceptable IMHO.
I'll never use nor own monster cable instrument cables. Poor sound qaulity compared to other less expensive cables imo and poor design with long history of damaging instrument and amp jacks with their oversize plugs. For very nice inexpensive higher qaulity then standard cable Live Wire Elite and Mogami's upper end cables are great choiuce and much much better then monster imo.
