Best Live Band

I have about 35 bootleg Albums of them I didn't include them cause I never saw em live.
In most cases the Bootlegs were the board mix or taped some are very good some are very bad but I have heard enough I definitely think JPJ is one of the greats. This would take us to a new thread: "Who is your favorite bassist of all time?" I think it's been done many time before.

Jimmy was way too inconsistent live. Booze, heroin (?) maybe got in the way.
These BBC Sessions are tremendous - raw, tight, powerful. As a lad of only 10 I didn't get to see Zep in 1970 but these recordings capture the essence of how they took the rock world by storm. Play 'em loud and dial in on Bonzo and JPJ!

Rush - '78 Long Beach Arena, Ca

These are the ones that instantly come to mind - -Many, many more great ones over the decades.

Cheap Trick is the best rock show around.

P-Funk is a 3 hour hour party that is unmatched. Incredible show!

My personal favorite is a lesser known guy out of Austin TX named Bob Schneider. His studio albums are 'meh', but his live show (and live band) are awesome!

*I saw them these guys on New Years Eve ( cant remember which year!) and I'm not kidding my legs ACHED for a week afterwards because I was jumping as hard and as high as I could for the entire show. No drugs and no drink either... just unmatched joy that went on forever. That band was impossible to maintain because how could any one group with 25 people make enough money to survive? For those lucky enough to have seen them live, they experienced something not likely to been seen in a very long time.. if ever again.

Jimi Hendrix---Wholsey Hall Yale Unn. campus 1969
Band of Gypsies---Filmore East (all of the sets) 1970


Muddy Waters Blues Band---Chicago Taste of the City 1967

James Cotton Blues Band (100% Cotton) circa 1972---1976

Tower of Power---Hungry Charlies (later known as Toads Place(still) New Haven Ct. many times seen there.

Lucky Peterson & Rico McFarlin---Gatorz Port Charlotte Fl 2002 simply the Best Duo Blues Guitarists in the World) if you ever get a chance to see these two together you will be blown away!

the Original Doctor Dirt & the Boogie Blues Band (big band)circa 1969 --1975 also ...........the lil 4 pc band from 1995 ---2002

solo performers--Richie Havens/Rory Block/Lighten Hopkins.
so many more wonderful people who bring good times.

To answer the question "best live band" I would have to go with:

Prince - Rhonda Smith
J Geils Band - Danny Klein
Tower of Power - Rocco

I've seen better/more impressive individual playing from other bass players (although all 3 are definitely great players) but these shows stood above them all for the overall band performance and how well they played as a unit and the energy they created, which is really what it is all about, at least to me.

Queen (Because of Freddie. JD's stage presence kind of bores me. (His sound makes up for that though.)
Foo Fighters
BTBAM - Dan Briggs (Colors Live- 'nuff said.)
