Roger is making me a clone of this one I ordered about a year ago and had to cancel....I HAD to have him make me another one....This is perhaps the best looking top I have ever seen on a Jazz style Bass!!

And my Elrick NJS5 (soon to be Lokire's)

:hyper: :D :hyper:

Most of my favorite basses (as far as looks) have already been posted here. The latest stuff from Jerzy Drozd blows me away. Especially that semi-hollow, Green 5-string and the crazy burled topped one. Everything that Ken Bebensee does is incredible. Especially this one:

I'd have to say, that's the most gorgeous (natural wood finish) bass I've ever seen. Incredible Maple Burl top, plus all the neck laminates with matching pickup covers and ramp. And the carving by the straplock there. Simply amazing.

And then, I'm partial to Ken Lawrence as well :D Here's mine...

What sort of wood/finish is that? It makes it appear like the surface realy is contoured with metallic bumps

It is plain ol' quilt maple (over a dual density body - walnut on the bass side and alder on the treble side) - but you are right - the contours are massive. It looks 3d. One of the most quilted tops/backs I have seen. Thick, durable finish over the wood - not sure what Sheldon uses, but it is like glass.
