Best low cost choice for bass strings?

Dont know if they have them on that side of the pond, but I put a set of Snarlin' Dogs on a parts bass the other day, only because it was literally the ONLY set of bass strings in town, and really liked them. So much in fact, I went back to the store where I got them (a pawn shop) and had him order me a five string set of them. Lots of zing and nice tension.

Based on your location, I would suggest you check out Thomann. Their home brand "Harley Benton" strings are decent quality and dirt cheap @ 5€:

That's what I was told in the past as well. But I wondering about that because, from what I understand, Dean Markley ceased their own string-winding operation since.
I'd look for bulk strings. I'm not sure who the "go to" vendor is for that type of thing in the UK. In the US [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] would be worth considering. I've used them and they are a decent string, especially in the lighter gauges.
But you're paying $11.83 per set (after shipping) for generic strings that are made who know where. For 20 more cents, you can get real deal D'Addario's that are factory fresh.

Yeah, if price is the only factor, you can get Chinese made, generic medium gauge stainless steel roundwounds, for £3 a set on Amazon.
I'm sure they're perfectly functional, for the beginner/hobo-bassist, even if they only last a month.
Yes I have heard that too. Not sure who makes them now. Whoever it is, they're good strings.
If you are in the uk gear4music own brand strings are really good and only a fiver , they only come in 95-40 gauge

I ordered a set eons ago when they used to advertise in Bass Player Magazine. I remember when Billy Sheehan was endorsing them for a while. I can't remember what they sounded like.Best wishes,

I used them a lot back when I played guitar. The fella that owned the guitar store here locally had gotten some in. He was an older gentleman, very religious, and there was something on the packaging that he had a problem with, and wouldnt have them in the store anymore (it was some kind of phrase, but I cant remember it). He gave them to the other guitar player in my band at the time and he gave me half a box of them. I had forgotten about them too until I saw them the other day. I really like them. He got another four string set in and I'm going to go grab them up.

Whatever's for sale at bassstringsonline.com. They almost have something decent and cheap.
My thought too. Check BSO's prices on D'Addario XLs, EB Slinkys, and GHS Boomers.
In fact, Jon Moody at GHS recently posted that GHS Bassics are typically priced a bit lower than Boomers, so IMO those are worth a look.
And BSO sells LaBella nickel plated roundwounds at killer low prices too.
I have lots of experience with all of the brands of strings I've listed, (Besides the GHS Bassics) and they're all great sets of strings, that are affordable, -even more so at BSO.
As my sig states, I'm a GHS Fan Boy. I haven't tried the Bassics yet, but I have zero doubts that they're a very good set.
