Best low cost choice for bass strings?

I'm putting together a bunch of parts I have lying around with a view of selling a few "beginner" basses. I'll be selling these very cheaply, but don't want to put off aspiring bass players by throwing any old junk on there. Any ideas?
What Jason is (not allowed to be) saying in post two is check out bassstringsonline.com. It's a great website that many of us TBers use. Great prices, products and service.

I've had a couple sets of these. Nice and cheap. $17. I had one set on my Jazz 4 for over a year. D'Addario XL Balanced Tension Nickel Wound Electric Bass Strings

They are a good bit cheaper at Bass Strings Online. Save yourself a few bucks.

Other D'Addario sets are $10 at BSO. Really hard to find a better deal than that.

Dead rounds can be had for free from a number of TB'ers if you ask and are willing to spring for shipping I'm sure. If it's for a good cause then you can probably even get them to spring for the shipping.

… very good option ... lots of used (not dead), and some just like new, but removed from incoming purchases … however, multiple sets are heavy, and shipping to another country is probably not going to be cheap

Cool idea! IMO I would hit up local players/shops in/around UK first for donations/contributions. At least stateside, there are online sites which sell and ship for about $5 USD less than the most recent adverts...
I would be cautious of "too good to be true" deals, Chinese rip-offs/theft of copyrights/trademarks...inferior quality and VERY hard to pursue/prosecute for infringements.
Good luck!
