Best low cost choice for bass strings?

Dunlop Super Brights are great strings and can be had for cheap.

I can't remember offhand (and I've never actually tried them) but wasn't it those Dunlops that are actually manufactured by Ernie Ball, and are supposedly Regulary Slinky strings, in different packaging?

No idea if that's actually true, but (assuming it was Dunlops I'm thinking of) they were made by Ernie Ball, so that much is legit.

Definitely not. Dunlop has their own string factory, they make their own stuff.

No, it wasn't D'Addario - given how long Ernie Ball have been making strings, when did D'Addario make strings for them?

I'll have to dig around, there was definitely a well known brand (I just had a feeling it was Dunlop) that clearly have/had the fact that they were actually manufactured by EB, printed on the packet.

Rumour was that they were just Slinky's repackaged, but I had my doubts.

Ernie Ball has been a string company for a long time, but they were not a string factory that whole time. When they started out, they bought from D'Addario. In fact, Slinky Flats still look an aaawful lot like D'Addario Chromes

I would buy the cheapest set possible.... Because if you are like me, you just change them anyways when you get a used bass. Just for sanitary reasons.

I'll keep the old strings as backups till I get more of the right strings for that bass.

I've had a couple sets of these. Nice and cheap. $17. I had one set on my Jazz 4 for over a year. D'Addario XL Balanced Tension Nickel Wound Electric Bass Strings

I used Blue Steel strings for a long time and TBH i don’t recall why i tried a set of D’Addario XL nickels, but i’ve pretty much been using them on pretty much everything for a number of yers now and i’m a happy camper.

Allegedly, they're manufactured by Ernie Ball, and are in the same packaging - though I personally have no experience with them, so I may just be regurgitating an Internet myth.

Most brands offer "shop packs" which are a bunch of strings in one plastic sleeve.

Some brands do them in quantities of 12, 24, or 72. These are the cheapest way to go if you are installing on a bass to sell if you are doing multiple basses.

Contact your favorite dealer to see what bulk packs may be available.

I had no idea that Marshall ever sold bass strings, so I have no idea about them...but I could see that. I'm sure they just bought something and put their name on it since they are not a string company.
