best micro head

A little on the heavy side for a micro amp, innit? I think he's wanting something you can slip into a gig bag pocket. Well, at least that's what I'm looking for in one.

I liked where Ashdown was going with their Mibass head, but then they came out with the 2nd version of it and the trademark ashdown VU meter was gone. That's abit of a bummer. Maybe they will put it back on the 3rd version. I'm in no hurry. Things are getting smaller all the time.

It is not sandwich size.
It is however the only small amp with a lay out and features that appeal to me to this extent.
Fewer features than most I have seen, which I like.
It coming from a really small builder is also something I like.
The glockenklang blue soul would be the one other really tempting amp for me when talking small.
I find the 'made in germany' in both cases reassuring as well( I like to keep my equipment european).
That I'd like these to be even smaller without losing quality goes without saying. :)

I'm having great times with the Ampeg PF350. Best, however, is rather subjective, innit? I get my sound easily and quickly with a PF350 so it's the best for me, but someone who likes another amp might argue with me. The trick is to find the best amp for YOU, not us ;)

just pulled the trigger on an Ampeg PF500... currently using Markbass CMD 112-combo w/a Hartke HX-112 ext cab... but needed (wanted :D) a backup amp to drive the Hartke + a 'future' 4x10 :D. The Portaflex is 11lbs. v.s. 2lbs. for the Hartke MB200... but I've always wanted to try that 'Ampeg' sound... will post a review upon arrival (6/19)

SO...can anyone recommend the best small, lightweight head?

Sure. You can get literally hundreds of recommendations concerning what is "best". And at the end of the day, none of them will necessarily be relevant to your particular needs & preferences - unless you specify those needs & preferences in your request, and others comply.

GK MB is just OK to me. It took a while to get something close to a vintage tone & even then wasn't really that vintage.

The Ampeg Micro VR has QC problems, but if you get a good one and don't need a ton of power I think the tone is great. I sold mine because I needed more power.

Classic example of how asking for "best" - without taking the time or doing the work to qualify your request - is ultimately an exercise in futility. Zachoff apparently prefers a vintage tone. So his "best" is unlikely to be the same as the "best" of someone who prefers a modern tone. And so on and so forth...

Right? :eyebrow:

and the one with the cable plugged in is...:)

i just tried my backup gk mb200 for the first time at practice(my giant overweight svt 2 pro has issues at the moment) ran it though my gk neo 4x12 and had no problem over powering 2 100 watt half stacks. not bad for 3lbs

Bingo! but the stuff that pisses everyone off is the most interesting!

My current faves of most interest are; Aguilar TH500, GK MB500 Fusion, MB Fusion 800 and while not a 'micro', my Orange Bass Terror BT500. I would also consider the Tecamp Puma 900, but it gets a little spendy.

Would like to check out an Epifani 501 again sometime. But the Aguilar TH500 and GK MB Fusion 800 are top on my list. I could be happy with either of those.

That Bass Terror 500 is pretty dang potable in it's little lunchbox bag.
"Micro"...certainly not as teensy as the Overton Flyweight or GK MB200;
but, certainly not like lugging a WT800 or 1001RBII either.

If I can bag it and chuck it over my shoulder easy enough, that's pretty micro.
