best octave pedal for bass???

I modded mine with two DPDT switches so that the synth mod (its just the squarewave without the envelope on it) so I can mix -1 and/or -2 with(out) the mod and it gives me a lot more tones out of that box.
I would suggest a Zoom MS-60b. The Bass Pitch setting tracks really well down to E, and since you can run 4 FX on any 1 patch, you could have it set up with a Line Selector(for blending and switching on/off)>Compressor>Bass Pitch (Octave down)>EQ. For $100 you've got a killer Octaver and a free tuner!

Is there a mod you can do that can switch it between the regular oc2 and the synth mode?
That's what it does! With the switch down its in regular mode, switch up is synth mode. And I placed a switch for each octave so I can have a synth-modded -2 and regular -1 for a blend of both worlds!

So I finally picked up a Foxrox Octron...this thing is cool...much dirtier in the upper octave setting than I expected, but in a cool way. In fact to me, it sounds better than a lot of dirt pedals I've tried. So much so that I am thinking of using it as a dirt pedal...I've got the upper octave set at about 2 o'clock, the Direct is dime'd, and the low octave is set at about noon. Really nice crunchy full/warm tone...

One cool aspect of the lowly OC-3 is that you can set a high pass for the signal that should be octaved. I use the Guitar input in POLY mode and set the range knob straight up. That equates to about a G, 12th fret on the G string. What's so great about that? You can slap and most of the pops are high frequency that don't get octaved, causing glitches. Just thumpy fundamental and the normal sound out of pops and ghost notes.
I've had a BOD and MicroPOG, so I'll weigh in:
BOD: I got rid of two after giving them some serious tries. I didn't like the tracking and there was a distinct, low farting sound that I couldn't get rid of despite my knob settings. And anyway, if I can't use more than one setting without facing an intermittent fart sound, then the pedal isn't all that useful for me.
MicroPOG: I really liked this pedal, but I sold it to fund my Bass VI, and I semi-regret it. I say "semi" because I really liked the +1 octave feature--it was the main reason I got it. However, I thought my dry tone was very much lost, and I could rarely get a mix of -1/0/+1 that retained any of my tone's character.
But here I am, kinda GASsing for another one ... echoing someone else here, if EHX just made a +1 pedal and sold it for ~$100, I'd have it on order by now. In the meantime I'm looking at the Octron (old or new), and on this thread I've learned about the Gojira Octaver and the Madbean Low Rider, both of which will be researched.
Then there's the Godlyke Great Divide. Holy expletive ... Check out Juan Alderete's review:

I am looking for an octave up pedal to run into a Fission Pedal. One thing I have noticed on every forum related to Octave pedals no one with a 5 or 6 string ever chime in... I also De-Tune a full step. I am assuming from all the reading I have done today I will have to get a Digital pedal, but wonder if anyone who has a POG or Octron AND a 5 string would mind detuning down a full step and let me know if the Octave up tracking works well or no? Anyone who helps out is a CHAMP!

I dont' have a 5-6 string BUT one of my basses is tuned DAEA so it should more than cover your 5-string range...
I use a EHX H.O.G.(digital octaver very closely related to the POG family) and Pearl Octaver (analog octaver with -2,-1 and +1).
The H.O.G. can track ANYTHING you throw at it ( I run it post fuzz,analog octaver,synth).
The Pearl (I also use to own a Boss OC-2) and both (the Pearl tracks better) but overall the Boss can do an A on the E string before it starts to warble. The Pearl seems to handle just about anything and will not warble for a while (can't reccommend this octaver enough over the Boss; I have a clone and it's true bypass,strong click DPDT switch and cool yellow LED).
To my knowledge, there is NO tracking when it comes to an analog +1 octaver as it's just a distortion square wave cut in half (with that said EVERY analog octaver will have some variety of distortion/grit to it's tone)
Analogue octave pedals are much preferred by many bass players for their natural response and fatness, compared to very precise, but plain digital emulations.
Legendary, rare and the best pedals are expensive, but for reason, as the majority of mass produced pedals simply do not reach proper quality.
Octave usually works nice with sort of synth on bass.
Unsurpassed favorite for last 15 years remains Akai SB1 for organically great tones without messy artifacts.
Two of favorite analogue octavers besides obvious champion SB-1 are TWA Great Divide 2.0 and Chunk Octavius Squeezer.
Lot of fun and great quality bass pedal is Subterrenea by Iron Ether.
COG manufactures very good octaver T-65, as well.

Cool questions on the octive. I've used the factotum red witch sub octive that has a two switches to engage. you can use it's octive sound and the distortion together or by themselves. a another cool processer is the me20b boss footswitch comes with a very cool suboctive programmable along with 10 banks with three patch per bank giving you 30 presets which are have editing features for customs sounds and change everything in real time. Something that was sweet when you need to change sounds if your doing a double engagement. such as afternoon gig and 10:00p engagements.
Another question I would like to ask the bass player community.What was the good response of using your octive pedal via using your fingers or a pick.
