Best P-Bass Tone In Rock?

John Wetton. Check out King Crimson's "Red". Grinding, churning, sparkly with overtones, almost like a Hammond organ about to explode.

For me it´s Bruce Foxton from The Jam....I just love the way me makes his P-Bass sounding like a Rickenbacker....In other words...he has both used Rics & P-Basses....but IMO 80% of the sound comes from the player....Mr Foxton is a perfect example.

John Wetton's P bass tone in the 70's, IMO, has the best rock tone. Check out his tone on UK's "Night after Night" live album.

Yes Sting does have a good tone, from back in the original Police days to the present.

What do you think of this tone from the recent tour? Is this just a new strings tone or is he doing a bit with the EQ.

They all sound the same to me. One pickup, one tone control. Not much variance if you ask me. The only one that is remotely unique to me is Entwistle's P on "Live at Leeds."

Pretty sure Mr. Daisley recorded "Diary" on a Gibson EB-3.

I got to spend about an hour talking to John Munson once. I was trying hard not to let on that I knew who he was and devolve into a slobbering fanboy. I think I held it together. It was just two players talking from my perspective.

He was an incredibly nice guy and of course, is a great player.
