What, no Canterbury(Soft Machine/Robert Wyatt/Hugh Hopper, Caravan, Hatfield and the North, Gong/Steve Hillage), Henry Cow, Gentle Giant, Van der Graaf Generator? Not a serious discussion without them.

WHAT NO CARAVAN, how could anyone leave this off that list. Im declaring a foul and demand a video review of the op actions.

There is no such thing as "Best" where music is concerned. There are acts you like and others you don't like. Some artists have great material and some horrible stuff as well. The pigeonholing of bands into one genre is limiting enough and really accomplished musicians can be great at a number of styles, so taking a few random band names and voting to proclaim one the "Best" is reckless behavior. There'll be enough of that kind of thing going on up until November.

I am unfamiliar with a prog rock band named "Unpopular." Ergo, that's a bold claim that only they truly define progressive rock (Yeah, I'm being a snarky jack-in-the-box.)

That article was funny, though. The album cover flowchart and Mushroom Sword had me laughing.

As for the poll, I voted Rush simply because I've actively listened to more of their music than any of the others and they remain the band I most desire to actively listen to.

IMO, "best" simply can't mean just one in anything that requires subjective evaluation. I have listened to many artists over the years and keep going back to Rush and Yes as my best examples of the prog rock genre. Rush being my personal favorite gives them my vote.

Atlanta Rhythm Section

Moody Blues
There are others but these are my favorites.

Of the mentioned - Rush hands down. Pink Floyd and Tool are second and third for me.

Based on the choices, I picked Rush. However.... Yes was missing from the list, and had they been listed, it would be a harder choice.

I was going to vote Rush considering both the quality of the music and out of respect for Neil’s memory.

But then I saw Pink Floyd in the list. In my book they’re right up there in the list of greatest bands of all time with the Beatles and Zeppelin.

This is the problem with how people think, that there has to be a ‘best’, ‘greatest’ ‘worst’.. Music, like most art, is entirely subjective. How about just appreciate each band/artist for the music they made without it having to be a competition?
