Matt freeman was way back my favorite punk bassist hands down but i think he's a bit overrated. Rancid is the best band of all time to me but some bass lines are just bit too many notes too fast.

For me the best bassist in punk is brian robinson from wilhelm scream. When i first time heard the album career suicide i was blown away. The man is a genius. Plays fingerstyle and i'm not really into the pick sound.

just to get this out of the way, mark hoppus SUCKS!!! he is a terrible bassist that can't write anything good. mike dirnt isn't very good either. i've just been getting pissed seeing those two. has no one heard anti-flag? the best punk band ever? with the best punk bassist? well, his name is #2 or something like that, if you want to hear some AWESOME punk bass, buy either "underground network," or "mobilize" by anti-flag. trust me, you'll like it.

Karl Alvarez!

I'm so glad to see him getting multiple mentions here. I couldn't even begin to describe how much joy his bass playing has brought into my life.

I took this picture of him 10 years ago when All played First Ave. here in Minneapolis. The encores turned into a hootenanny of sorts and everyone switched instruments, Karl also decided to model some of the ladies merch.

On July 6, 2012, Flanagan was arrested for allegedly stabbing two current members of Cro-Mags, and biting one of them in the groin, backstage at the Webster Hall in New York City. The band's lead singer, John Joseph, said Flanagan "had been at odds with other members of the Cro-Mags since he left the band in 2000 and had not been permitted to rejoin."[2] Reportedly, Flanagan sustained a broken leg while being subdued by security and the injuries to the victims are not life-threatening.

My opinion:


Second, whether Green Day is "punk" or not, their musical style is derived in fair part from punk. Furthermore, some of their songs are just as "incorrect" as anything the Pistols or Kennedys ever did.

The difference is,.....when the Sex Pistols or Kennedys 'did it'......it was revolutionary, cutting-edge, risque, and outrageous........in the 'Green Day' Era,....not at all.

That glass ceiling had already been smashed.

(I do give them tons of credit for being 'formulaic perfectionists')
