Mike Watt! I always liked him in minutemen, but what's really great is what he's doing currently with kira whatshername from black flag. His band now is called dos, which is only two basses, some singing, but not too much. I think every bassist should check out dos. Sooo good.
dos has been putting out albums since the late 80s. Only three or four, I think, but they've been around for a long while. Mike and Kira were married for a few years.
JJ Burnel is not punk ! ( but I do like his playing)
Did I say that I think Klaus Flouride is the best punk bassist
he plays at a very fast speed, I cant keep up with the bass on the DK album Fresh fruits for rotting vegetables, there are some great bass lines on DK albums, take ill in the head, I could not find a clip of Klaus playing it but this is good enough !

As for the poster who said he wasn't punk, have to disagree: the band had the attitude, the image and the agressive sound for punk. They just happened to have a keys player who was into the doors at the same time and widdled keys solos shamelessly over most of their tracks
Just listen to "No more heroes" or "straighten out", classic punk. Just the most aggressive sound you can get on bass (along with wetton in his king crimson period). Love the tone on his bass intro to "walk on by"
