Best Punk Bassist

The Stranglers were NOT really punk, they were too good, ok they wrote some loud songs but they always had a bit of quality as musicians which most punk bands lacked at the time .
They were a very good and individual rock band with atittude, shame they went all radio friendly, like most of them did, I suppose you gotta earn a crust :D

the band had the attitude, the image and the agressive sound for punk
So did/do lots of bands, it does not make them punk !!

They were lucky to be around at the time of the punk bandwagon, it won them a lot of fans and rightly so ;)

So there we have it, the two best punk bassists, JJ Burnel (who was not really a punk) and Klaus Fluoride who most definitely was, the Dead Kennedys NEVER compromised their punk atittude for pop success ;):D

10 years, 249 posts ,and no one mentioned Mike Dunnigan of Suicidal Tendencies? hands down!! I mean c'mon...I Saw Your Mommy? Won't Fall in Love Today? Possesed? I play even 2 notes from any of these songs at shows for sound check and everyone in the room goes nuts!!!

Brian Baker - Minor Threat

Mike Watt - Minutemen

Daryl Jennifer - Bad Brains

Mike Dean - COC

Garth Petrie - Strike Anywhere

-David Sims-- Scratch Acid

The bassist for All and also the Descendents and also the latest incarnation of the Lemonheads is Karl Alvarez. One of my biggest influences. His predecessor in the Descendents was Tony Lombardo who was no slouch either. Check out any album from the Descendents or All to hear some serious (pop) punk bass lines.
