Best short scale under $1000?

you can have scott beckwith build you a birdsong shortbass for $1000.00 Your choice of walnut. mahogany or spanish cedar body, rosewood or maple fretboard! Its well worth the money. I chose spanish cedar & maple, it really is a pleasure to play this bass and it sounds amazing!

If you can find a used Jerry Jones Longhorn semi hollow bass, I can only recommend it.
I was stupid enough to sell mine though and regret it.
It's like an upgraded quality version of the ones Danelectro produce, and it sound great, really special but useful tones you can get out of it.

Looked into this bass to see if it's available in a fretless than I found out its $4000I havent played one, but I have heard good things about the Lakland hollowbody..
Whoa! The Skyline streets at $900 to under a grand. I didn't know they even had a USA model. No idea if either are available as a fretless.
I own 2 SGs. They are specials. Bought one new for around $700 new and one used for $400.
Where/when did you get new one for $700? Is it a 2015? (new bridge) I'm not doubting you - I'm just wondering where I can get such deals. I have a 2015 SG - it kicks butt although Gibson service sucks. It cost me $1400+ at Sam Ash about 6 months ago and I don't regret paying the money. But I have a Reverd Dub King I like better - the only shorty I know of that does not sound or feel small. It can do a J or a P quite well.
BTW, offhand I'm not familiar with the Specials - they are a step down from the Standards, correct?
Bought my 2014 Chocolate Special new from GC for $700. It is exactly the same as the standard except they only came in 3 different satin finishes and had a 120th anniversary inlay on the 12th fret. Bought my second one off eBay for $400. Guy had only had it for about a month and decided he didn't like short scale.
Everybody has good things to say about that bass and nobody can keep them in stock.
AFAIK, the USA model is not a shorty - the only shorty is the Skyline - never seen anything else. They make a long scale hollow body also.
The birdsong fretless shortbass is the same price as a fretted! My shortbass is in the last two pictures on the right on the birdsong website under shortbass!
