Could just be a UK thing. I’ve seen lots of pictures of peeling tolex, missing feet, handles coming loose etc. Never bothered saving them because it wasn’t that interesting, easier just to move on and buy/sell something with a better reputation.
Of course, this can be true of lots of brands or individual products. If ever we came across something with repeated issues we’d just delist it very quickly. You have to have a bit of faith that everything you sell is of good quality and won’t let a customer down on a gig.
There is definitely a thing about owners not wanting to go public because they want to shift their cabs quickly.
We heard so many issues in the store about how easily they damaged and saw some first-hand examples. It was enough to stop us taking them in exchange even though we knew they would probably sell fairly quickly.
I ordered two Big Baby 2 and had them delivered overseas. One of them had a tag that said Factory Second. They sounded fine and for some time I couldn't understand what was wrong.
It wasn't rattling and nothing was really coming loose. Things changed after I put my Markbass Multiamp onto the cab and left it there for several months.
The rubber was melting the Tolex or whatever they covered the one that had a tag that said Factory Second. Luckily I literally peeled it off (made that horrible crackling sound as I yanked it off) in time but there is a circle melted mark on the top of the cab to prove my point. Clearly some chemical reaction was going on.
Now, this is what I don't get. Barefaced didn't even bother to take that tag off!! I never got a response on this and needless to say, the least they could have done was to take the bloody tag off and at least try to fake it. Afterall I PAID FULL PRICE for these two.
How lazy could you be? Or was it an act of spite, as in who cares about what you the customer thinks. I gave these guys over 6 weeks beyond the deadline to complete my order. I was nice because I wasn't going to be back to pick them up on the due date. The least they could have done was to schlack that Tolex or whatever that covers the cab correctly, after all I bought two and had them shipped overseas, and gave them close to 2 extra months. These things aren't cheap. They are in the same league as the Bergs and Aguilars in my country.
Sure they sound fine. But I travel a lot. I thought I would be bringing these to wherever I would be moving in the next 12 months. Within 2 years, I would be putting my cabs onto the airplane at least 3 times. And each time is 2 legs. Quite frankly the build quality on my Big Baby2 makes me cringe, thinking about doing 6 legs. They sound great, but I didn't buy the likes of an Italian leather shoes that look good, wears well, but last one season.
I bought these so that I wouldn't have to worry about getting more cabs. My wife accepts the fact that I have many guitars and I just had a custom storage made for them. But cabs are a different topic. They just take up too much space to just store. Now I have to buy yet another cab because I am not confident in the build quality. Last thing I want is to pay extra to haul them onto the plane and then have them crap out at the destination.
I don't get paid to say nice things. I pay to get nice things. Unlike most of the peeps here who love their BF, this is my honest assessment of the shoddy business practice. I do not recommend them. I would have gladly paid that enormous shipping price and gone Greenboy / Fearful had I known.
I can't get rid of these in Ukraine because no one has the money to spend after that stupid revolution. Besides it cost me a bloody fortune to load them onto Turkish Airlines and bring them to Zookraine. Financial suicide soaked in blood all the way to hell. Questionable build quality bleeding into all part of my life, now and into the future.
This is my experience. I am not sugar coating anything. Everyone has a different story to tell. But I realized that I should return TB members a favor for the information and help I got from people over the last 3 years by giving people a different take on this cab. They sound great but not worth it. This is my experience.
Well on the positive side, I'll be able to own and hear why people are loving their Bergs. LOL
