Best slap bass out there...

There are many good basses out there for nice slap tones. Some of my favorites are the Lakland 55-01's, 55-02's, and 55-94's, the Sadowsky M5-24, especially with the EMG 40J's, and my Valenti J5 has an incredibly hot slap tone, also with the EMG 40J's and an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp. I also love the sound of an active Fender Jazz or and active Fender PJ. MTD's have a very hot and bright tone to them which makes them great slappers as well. Well shoot, you might as well throw in my old Kubicki X-Factor, pre-Fender mind you. That thing was a beast. The Pedulla Thunderbass was a great slapper too. Much thump came from that bass.

Fender Jazz FTW!!!

I have a custom classic j-bass and it RIPS. Cobalt noisless pickups(active-takes 2batts!), ash body, rosewood fingerboard...

The thing has tone out the wazoo.

F Bass, Celinder and probably a 70s style Alleva-Coppolo. The best of the best IMO.

The best? Hm, definitely Status. Both playability and sound wise. Also MTD535, superb sound but not so easy to slap as the Status. Sadowsky - great sound but much harder to play (than the Status). Fender Jazz - ok playability and sound. Music Man - ok, has it's own sound that suits some musical styles but can be hardly be used in others.

I like the slap tone of a Jazz bass but I never really got the 'best' action/feel out of mine. Right now I can't seem to find anything that has better slap tone/playability than my MTD

Ash body, maple neck and fingerboard, single coil pickups, DR Highbeams and a good on-board preamp. I prefer 21 frets over 24. Not only is there more room but, even acoustically, slapping a 21 fret neck seems to have more "thump" IMO.

In terms of what's the EASIEST bass to slap on, nothing I've played has been even close to my Fodera. That thing plays itself, even after I raised the action considerably for better tone (I don't slap that much).
Let's see how my new Ritter can challenge it on that point when it arrives

In terms of tone, there are more basses good for slapping than those not good for slapping - depends too much on the player and what flavor you're after at the moment.
I like what I hear from Foderas, Fenders, Sadowskys, MTD, Warwicks, Celinders, etc, etc, ETC

Hmm... Music Man Stingray, Warwick Thumb, MTDs come to mind. You could also go the P-bass, Jazz, or Super Jazz route. Steinberger, Modulus, and Status basses sound great slapped, too. And of course, there's the Fodera/Alembic etc crowd...

It's really more about attitude and technique than the bass you choose. Any bass with good high end response and some punch behind it will sound good slapped if you want it to.

Spaldo is correct, though... *This* is why it's called "slapping"

MM basses get a great slap tone without even trying.

I can also get a really fat slap tone out of my trusty Fender P/J.

musicman stingrays or fender jazz basses are my favourite.. my old fender/status jazz with barts sounded great for slap as did my old marcus miller jazz bass.. wish i still had them!

i find stingrays are the easiest basses to slap on and sound great.

i find i can get a better slap sound out of basses with 20 or 21 frets.
