not sure if I posted this already, but my favorite slap sound to date (that I have personally played) has been a Zon vinny 4 with light gauge strings. Not conventional "slap bass" material but it just killed

This is completely subjective and I am totally biased, but IMO the best slap bass out there is the Celinder J-Update.

I prefer the 'sound' of the jazz bass slapped but they are not the easiest bass to slap on. Sadowsky's are cool but a bit too modern sounding. I like that organic old school vibe.

An old Precision Bass with rounds is really hard to beat for a thick syrupy slap tone which will cut through as well as underpinning the rest of the music..

I would like to get as many opinions as I can...what is the best slap bass out there!?!?!?!

Only MY subjective opinion, based on what I've owned:

#1 Lakland 44-94
#2 Fender Jazz
#3 MM Sterling
#3 Zon Sonus

All were 4 strings - yes, I play 5's but to my mind, nothing feels better to slap than a 4. Something about the dimensions of the neck, the E string sitting there on the bottom just aching to be spanked...

Since I slap less and less these days, I like a bass that does many things well - hence my recent purchase of a used jazz bass - and you'll note I rate it highly for slappin'.

To me, a more interesting poll might be what's the WORST bass for slapping, since so many are designed to handle that duty now...

That's the first time I've ever heard of this guy. But wow. That tone is badass.

Any suggestions for getting a tone like that should be PM'd to me immediately.

Embly's right. Grab that bass that he's a fool to sell! If there was ANY way that I could myself, I would. Believe me, it's the ONLY way to get that tone. I chased that sound for YEARS before finding it with a Kubicki. There's truly NOTHING like these basses. They are utterly unique. And his is ESPECIALLY unique. Damn you, mouse!

I have not worked on slap technique very much. Most of my bass playing has been done on 5-strings with narrow spacing, and they didn't feel right when I tried slapping, so I haven't really put much effort into it. I plan to buy a used 4-string and take some lessons.

What is the EASIEST bass to learn slap with?

I've seen some opinions here that a Fender J isn't the easiest. I'm not as concerned about tone as I am simply having a tool for learning.

My custom sounds awesome.
So do sadowskys I tried, spectors, theres some awesome warwics,etc.

Slapped appropriately, any bass can give an awesome sound, too subjective to ask!
