Best song for a mosh pit?

F**king hostile - Pantera!

Supercharger heaven - White Zombie
Edgecrusher - Fear Factory
Hammer Smashed Face - Cannibal Corpse

I've been in the pit at performances of all these songs.
Pantera could create a pit you weren't sure you'd get out of, but it was well worth it.
CFH!

I think i'm gonna go smash something right now.:bassist:

I second the earlier post suggesting Roots. Arise and Territory are other good Sepultura mosh starters.

Raining Blood always seems to start an immediate mosh pit, as well. Shoot, darn near any Slayer song does.

I always found that the tunes with the slow heavy groove parts have the best rhythm for the pit. Fast stuff doesnt work as well. For me at least. The best pits I have been in were a few death shows in the mid 90s - Corpse, Brutal Truth that sort of thing. The lamest and largest group of pitters was a NIN show I went to. Bunch of wannabe fools kicking and punching. Why I ever went to that I can not say. Oh right it was free.

I got knocked out cold in the pit at a Circle Jerks show in the early 90's. Came to at IHOP. That was my last time in a pit, strangely enough.
I vote for "Caught In a Mosh" by Anthrax.

Circle Jerks shows have always had great moshpits. I experienced my first one in the mid '80s. I got knocked silly at a Descendents (or was it D.R.I.?) show a number of years back, and almost broke my arm at The Cramps.

You are the most misinformed person ever haha. It is actually the exact opposite, hardcore dancing is never supposed to touch another person and rarely does at a real hardcore show. The other pits are the ones where you're all bumping and smashing each other in a mass of chaos, hardcore dancing can be done by a single person, thus why a lot of them practice their dancing in their bedrooms.

I was really only speaking from my experiance, I've never been hurt (broken nose, and I was just standing watching, not even partaking in the "slam dancing")and then just people kept going doing what they will. I've been knocked down in a punk pit from time to time, and literally EVERY SINGLE TIME the pit has come to a near stop just to help one person up. See that much during slam dancing, no?

But once again, most of my information is from personal experiance.

Noone would ever "slam dance" to hardcore, slam dancing is what you do if you're 11 and at a new metal concert.

For ultra heavy, grooving, sludging breakdowns, you need to listen to the song Spirit Crusher by Death. The chorus is simply ridiculous.

Graeme

I am watching Death play that song live right now on the Pers DVD. I don't see anyone moshing, just a lot of headbanging. Not to detract from the song at all, I think these guys on the DVD don't have any you-know-what's.

It's a good pick, but I think Pantera wins hands-down for a good mosh.
