I have to agree with Jimmy, I have both the Acoustic 260 and the Micro VR, I initially was blown away by the Acoustic until I tweaked the Ampeg's controls a bit. The Micro VR definitely can be used in a band setting, the little Acoustic not so much.

Ya, the Acoustic has only one 10", and since there's about as much airspace in it as the Micro VR which has two 10"s, naturally you'll get a deeper low end out of it, but a little EQ brings the Ampeg rig right back into it.

I tried an Acoustic B20 at GC and wasn't impressed at all. I know it's a small amp, but the Peavey Max around the same size had a much bigger sound.
I used to own the Acoustic B200, but sold it because it was 75 pounds. Honestly, I wish I had it just sitting here in the Man Cave. Great tone.
You might look at the GK MB's. TONS of threads about them. I have an MB210 and have a love/hate relationship with it. Don't get me started.
What I really want now, is the Ampeg SVT7 Pro. I think the PF-500 is worth a look.

Hard to beat one of these for bedroom or practice use;

Of course it will push pretty hard on the $800 budget, but unlike a new transistor amp it should hold it's value, or even increase over the next several years so it's not like you would be losing money.

Jimmy, I've become a HUGE VR fan! What a great sounding amp! I just was so used to having everything set at noon, but once I started tweaking, whammo! I'm actually selling the little Acoustic, have no need for it.....

I don't know if I'd say an Acoustic blows away an Ampeg but it is more cost-effective. I can say this: relative to it's power rating and price tag, the Acoustic B20 is the absolute best low-wattage, low-cost practice amp I've played. You might argue a more expensive amp sounds better or a louder amp is better suited to playing with a band but if I were short on cash and I just needed a sound that could fill up my apartment, the B20 would be and is the only amp I need. YMMV

Speaking as somebody who lately plays exclusively in the living room.


If you can get a B-100R or B-50R at a good price they are great amps.

I sold my minty USA made B100R and used the $ to get a Micro-VR setup.....and I've never regretted it for a second.

And I really like B-100R's

2 other amps that are always in the back of my mind....
