Best stands for basses

The Hercules stand are great...except for one thing. They make me uncomfortable hanging a 4 string with the HipShot on them. I don't like the way the HipShot has to bear most of the weight of the bass. Deal killer for me.

Thank you for mentioning that. That takes me out of the running for ordering the Hipshot since it would cost me WAY more to replace all my wall hangers...

Mine (Ultimate) are very similar in design but without the pull-down lock (has a strap that works fine).

These designs (any of the brands) are VERY stable to knock-overs and what I like is they fold into a small package. So all my main axes (not all my axes of them as that would be too expensive) have their own Ultimate stand where the hard case has been hollowed out so that each bass case comes with it's own stand, cord, strap, tools, batteries, strings etc. FOR THAT BASS!

I say this style is the best. The cheap style with the "U" holding up the bottom of the instrument don't fold up compact and have the stupid U thing sticking into everything. Hercules, ultimate, etc. are "best".
I am very happy with this one as well

If your in the market for a multiple stand.. This one by hercules is the most sturdy stand I've ever seen. Great for the house too.

I had credit at a music store and couldn't make up my mind what to get so I decided to try the Hercules stand...I have an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro IV...figuring I could always return it if I didn't like. It's expensive but worth every dollar. I have mine adjusted so the bottom of my base is just touching the floor even though most people say hanging a guitar won't damage it.
I did want to buy this Quiklok stand though because it's designed for basses that don't sit right in traditional stands. The bottom cradle is adjustable.
$25 on ebay sounds like a good deal, too.

I just picked up the Ultimate Support GS-200, like yours only with the fold out lower support arms:

I felt more comfortable with the stand supporting the bass at the bottom and the neck. The price was reasonable compared to the Hercules stands, which were at least double the $30.00 I paid.
