Best Underrated/Unknown Bassist

Not sure if Eric Czar was mentioned in this thread yet or not...but his name should definately be brought up here. He played with Joe Bonamassa for years, and if you have ever seen him, or heard his playing, you will know why I mention him...

His solo stuff is amazing too...

uncredited for his work = bob babbit

underated = john mcvie

biggest disappointment to me because he od'd = gary thain

biggest fan of = terry butler (and probably one of the most underpaid thanks to sharon o, imho)

totally awed by = chris squire

I am new here. I have been plodding through thread after thread about the most overrated/underrated bass player. And there are a lot of threads on this topic.

The great players, be it bass or whatever, are great not because of any particular technical ability they may have but because their playing makes the other players in their ensemble play better. This is genre dependent but you get the point: I want to play with you because when I do, I play better. In fact I play beyond myself, better than I have before and I want some more of that.

That's a good bass player.

I mentioned David Wm. Sims above, and he is one of my faves, but I thought of a couple more. One is Michael Gerald from the band Killdozer.

The other isn't unknown, but I think he's way underrated, and little spoken-of. I always really liked his work and the things he came up with on bass-- Dennis Dunaway from the original Alice Cooper band. The bass playing on the first few AC albums is great. Not flashy, but just right. Great stuff. Great albums too.
