Simple enough, what is the best and worst advice you've ever gotten related to bass playing? For me......

Best advice: Spend time messing around with you tone knob (On a P-bass), and pay attention to where you're picking (close to the bridge, close to the neck, in-between, etc)

Worst advice: "This amp has crappy lows and highs, so just play on the middle strings (A and D) and it'll sound good"


Lets hear what you guys have been told, I'm sure theres some funny stuff out there.

BEST: Less equals more!
WORST: you have to play right-handed.

How do you know when it's good? And if it isn't does that mean you're not playing with enough freedom?

Worst: smiley face EQ. Doesn't work for Rick basses at all, sucks the life out of the sound.

Best: "you're gonna want to put some rounds on that" when I got my first Rick, it still had the original 10 year old flats on it. I favored flats at the time.

WORST ADVICE: i aint got any on me mate i wouldnt bag up for her anyway she looks clean and she's well into bassists get in there while you can we have to load out in an hour (roll on 3 weeks n i'm on a big coarse of antibiotics having tested posative for chlamydia)

haha, that is some pretty bad advice

best: don't be a negator
(having an open mind and being positive is something that has done wonders for my bands, and is something i continue to strive for)

worst: don't play that - that's too proggy
(i don't play proggy, he meant it wasn't "90's alternative rock"-y enough for *his* band)
