Best/your favorit flanger?

I think you're right, I have been wanting to get the vortex for some time now. But I just don't have the cash at the moment

I was thinking about selling mine last month cause I took it off my board and replaced it with my ol' BF3. But then I decided to put it through it's paces again and replaced the BF3 for it recently. Yeah, I'm not getting rid of it. It's too sweet a flanger and I'm totally diggin it now. I used it at practice last night by itself, I sometimes stack my zoom 70cdr with it for chorus on top of flanger, and it completely sang. The vortex isn't coming off my board for long while yet. It just sounds too good in a live setting.

Another vote for BF-2. No low end loss, sounds great. I just put all of the knobs at noon (rate adjusted for the song), sounds killer!

If you do want the classic jet-flanger sound, the Toadworks Barracuda. It's the Howard Leese (of Heart) signature model, and I found that it worked very well for bass - very zoomy sound w/o dropping all the bottom end. Expression pedal control as an option was also an interesting capability.

For the standard, normal flanger sound, my favorite is the DOD FX72. I find it much fatter and prominent than the BF-2.

For over the top craziness and through-zero wormhole sounds, the Flanger Hoax rules, although the Mr Blank Tunnelworm sound great, haven't tried it.

Have had a DOD Bass Flanger (the brown one) since 1989. It is my favorite pedal.

I'd heard Squire used a Morley Tremolo pedal for "Heart Of The Sunrise", but I'm not sure where I heard that. But the effect definitely sounds more like tremolo than Leslie-induced doppler to my ears.

"Heartbreaker" definitely was a Leslie. Not sure about "Startship Trooper"

check out his rig rundown on youtube, it's a custom (from back in the day) tremolo pedal he still uses.

The Boss HF-2 Hi-Band flanger adds an octave-up to your signal and flangs this octave up (and it doesn't eat lows!!)
It is a very subtle effect, but is sounds very nice as it makes your sound 'wider/denser'. I used one for years.

it processes the flange effect an octave higher than the BF-2 (leaving the bottom end uneffected), but it does not add an octave up.

MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe (it has a flanger option) and Boss BF-2 are the two I currently use.
The AD/A is also superb for more extreme flanging.

For me, I like a very pronounced yet smooth flanger. Same with chorus. I want to hear the effect live. I want it to be heard in the mix when I'm playing live. A little bit of or a warm and subtle doesn't do it for me. I need it to sing! Yet I don't want it to sound like a plane just took off either. That vortex does great for what I want. And it can sound like a plane taking off too, but I'll never probably use that. Well, then again......

I think a flanger is next for me as well, I'll probably end up with a new BF3, but the Mr. Black TunnelWorm looks promising. The A/DA flanger would be cool, as would the toadworks Barracuda but I want to stay below $200 for this flanger.

I liked my Stereo Electric Mistress when I was using it. I still have it but its not on my board anymore. I was really only using it for the chorus which my BWhammy handles my chorus needs now. Never really used flange. I am more of a phaser guy but I did like it when I was just messing around with it. Take it FWIW. The chorus I thought was great. Boosted my signal pretty nicely, I didn't use it enough to warrant it staying on my board but I will keep it just in case.

I have a 1979 MXR Flanger. AC cord built in, no wall wart. It has a really full fat sound. I also have a Fulltone Choral Flange. It's not as thick. I generally use it for that light smooth chorus on solos.

I just got a TC Vortex flanger last month I'm just thrilled with! The thing has quite a range on it plus it has a pos/neg feedback control which adds to sound capabilities, and like most of the TC Electronics pedals - it's toneprint enabled. I haven't started playing with it yet, but seems like a nice feature.

I've been using a Boss BF-2 forever. I love it so I've never really looked into anything else. It does everything I want out of a Flanger.

BF-2 for me as well. Source Audio Orbital can get close, and I find the Mr Black Tunnelworm very interesting. But then there's the SubDecay Starlight...

BF-2b is quite good, though I wound up ditching it for the flexibility of the Vortex. I think I'm staying with that for the foreseeable future. I particularly like the John Petrucci toneprint.
