Better tone with bridge cover?

Which is why one leaves the covers on :).
This is my 2008. I also have the pickup cover if I ever feel like selling it, which is probably never.

Thanks! Oh its a player , its a killer bass though but my friend has a very good condition’68 that has not turned bar smoke yellow. Here is my ‘68 , his ‘68 & ‘63

I’m not really sure what it’s worth tbh. Its all original except the pick guard. Those mostly all disintegrated from that era.

I doubt it, but it would be interesting to set up a drill and jig to pluck the strings in a highly repeatable way and then check with and without bridge cover out of phase in a DAW for consistent differences. It's theoretically possible the increased mass and kind of steel reinforcement could change the way the body vibrates ever so slightly at the bridge...but its more likely you're hearing the forced technique difference.
