So, Monique plus Flex in the "full nasty" (mids hot + plus both tweeters on) mode is pretty cool. I never run both tweets otherwise but found that it works well with Mo. Monique with the Flex is also unbelievably thick sounding. Will play around with this some more.

It is correct, Mike cannot post in this thread. I'm the admin who has probably dealt with Mike the most regarding the CUP in his time here. We really don't like to comment on details of specific actions, especially when the individual in question cannot respond here. But since clarification was asked for, there we are.
I can assure you it is our aim to enforce the CUP evenly across the board. If you see CUP rule breaking posts, report them and they will be dealt with.

David, thanks for the clarification. I understand the reluctance to comment, especially since, as you say, Mike can't respond here, but, in this case, where Mike's profile no longer reads "Banned" but he hasn't commented here in awhile, it helps to remove confusion. I'd like to thank Chef, as well, who took the time for some brief dialogue with me regarding my previously expressed concerns, which I appreciate, both in this specific instance and in general. I'll contact you guys directly with concerns in the future.
Regardless of the cause - and I am not pointing any fingers here - I feel this thread is poorer without Mike. There is still a good deal of info and dialog from the various users of the cabs, and I appreciate the input of people like Leland and Duke, who have some technical knowledge of the cabs, but it was nice to be able to have the builder directly involved. I know that there is another forum where one can go for that, but the mix of users and experiences here is broader, and I like being able to discuss things in that mix.
If, moving forward, a way can be found for Mike to be involved in the thread again, I know that I'm not the only reader who would appreciate that. I think it would go a long way to engendering positive feeling among a significant number of people reading and participating in this thread.
I realize that that would take some work/dialog/common understanding on both sides. Since I can't presume to speak for either side in the matter, I guess that's all I've got to say.

I guess I would like to know specifically, publicly, why Mike is the only person (according to Spencer IIRC) who is not banned from talkbass, but is specifically not allowed to participate in a specific thread? Sounds like a departure for TB policies, and I would be curious what extenuating circumstance precipitates that kind of specific action?
You may not want to address that publicly, but i think its concerning that the policy has been modified for one persons actions. Especially if you're not going to explain what caused that unique and seemingly singular response.

I find with the MAS112 that I much prefer the tweeter and mid boost off, but that is possibly only because I haven't used it but once beyond the practice space. Things might change once the band gets out into some venues.

I really like the Flex top cab with the tweeters turned off and a little treble boost on the amp. Those 6's give a REALLY nice natural top end to the sound without that 'tweeter' feel. That said, IMO the Ciare tweets are about the best sounding tweeters I've heard. Super transparent..
But I digress...
I am a big fan of those six-inch drivers. I also ran with the tweets off for months and was really digging the tones. Here lately I have been kicking in the tweeter (only one on the 110 Flex) and running the 6's @ -3db - lovely.

The trick for finding the sweet spot with the flex Rig, For me anyways, is using a head or preamp that mitigates the upper bass hump in that cab. It has a strong push beneath the lower mid range but above the bass region, which sounds great, and is very effective in a busy mix, but if your bass and amp are also pushing in that region can get a little bit too big. In my experience, heads that have a nice relaxed lower mid range seem to pair well.
@agedhorse said something in the Subway thread about Mesa amps having a slight dip in the lower mids, if I remember right. Don't know if that dip in the native voice of the Walkabout lines up with the hump in the Flex or not, but I did like the Walkabout with the Flex when I messed around with that pairing recently. Enough to investigate further. Next time I have the Flex out, I think I'll bring the WA as well. Also want to see what the clean headroom on the WA is like through the Flex, as clean headroom is the main thing that got the WA semi-retired in the first place.
Back to the voicing, the WA has a pretty flexible EQ.

I really love my Tecamp Puma900 but I've been mildly surprised to find that it's not the best pairing with the Flex, for my personal preferences.

Were you using an Empress Para EQ with the Sonic Farm DI, or am I mixing you up with someone else? I know about the DI, but not the EQ.
I don't know how it scopes, but the little Kustom KXB 500 sounds like a million bucks through the Flex. It's a good sounding little amp to begin with, but the Flex makes it sound better than it has a right to.

After the initial investments in no-compromise gear, the only money I'm spending on music gear these days is on strings and the occasional 9v battery...

I totally agree, the Ciare tweeter is a great tweeter. It really is subtle. I suspect that once I get out into a larger space, and the band volume goes up, I may very likely find myself switching it on.

yep, I have a pedalboard that I almost always use in front of the 2di4, that has a para EQ on it, as well as some other tone shaping things like a DRW comp, and Fdeck Series 3. the para EQ is money, especially since the 2di4 has very nice, albeit limited tone shaping options.
I would love to check out one of those Kustom heads, I hear such great things!!!
The little Kustom isn't going to be on the level of your 2DI4 + Crest - that's a few rungs higher up the ladder. It's not as smooth, detailed, harmonically rich, or even as the 2DI4 and the power section is the same one found in most 500 Watt micros -- not gonna hold a candle to the Crest -- but, from what little I've heard of the Puma (an admittedly "better" and better built head), I like the vibe of the little Kustom more. Just a bit old school, without the wool of the Aggie TH500. Feels tight, quick, forward, and just a bit rough. Top end is a bit thin, but the Flex seems to fill that right out. Everything that's good about the Kustom is magnified with the Flex, and all its weaknesses are shored up - at least that was my impression over two gigs with it. Those were the first two gigs I played with both cabs, though, so I might've been in shock. I liked it better than the Markbass F500 through the Flex, though. Through the 46, I like the F500 better. Little Kustom through the Flex, though - I actually felt indecent. Sounded rich and really popped with all switches in the default positions.

Sure. Bear in mind this is all relative - my GBE 1200 or a nice tube pre through a poweramp are on another level than the KXB. JGR's Box O Tone prototype, when I got to try it, was on another level. Among micros, though, I like it a lot. Not the world's most flexible EQ, but seems to have a nice synergy with the Flex, and I was able to carry a loud gig pretty easily with it. Don't have any recordings with the Kustom and the Flex, but I made a quick, apartment level clip of it through the 112 somewhere in the KXB thread. Will see if I can find it.
