Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

Well fellas, I just received a message from the man himself. He found time to put together a Bodai 112 with the built in power module (identical to the one used in the Tantra and the RAD eng amp I just purchased. That has to be a wicked combo! I will post more details as I get them.

As I recall from a previous conversation with Mike, there are several cabs with the integrated amps over in Europe already.

For the same reasons that powered bass cabinets in general aren't popular:
  • redundancy (players already own an amp)
  • inflexibility (the embedded amp can't drive other cabinets without its host cabinet)
  • over-specialization (requires using a preamp that can properly drive an amp)
  • overhead (requires two power connections, preamp and cabinet, instead of one, integrated amp)

What does the RAD amp cost? I have been thinking about a Lab gruppen IDP 2400, as it has DSP. This means I could tailor the ideal EQ curve and HPF for each of my cabs. OTOH, the simplicity of the RAD is appealing too.

You're PSYCHED! that thing is always on my board and always on. Sometimes I wonder if I need it, because its very subtle the way I have it set. then i toggle it on/off and realize that it is fantastically effective and transparent. Couldnt be much happier with a compressor!

Gigged my Bodai 112 with the 1,000 watt ICE last night, very happy customer here! Used the Cali76 TX and the Noble to drive it, still need to try it with the Broughton Studio One.

Just a fabulous combo, and way louder than a single 10 has any right to be. I was tagged on Facebook yesterday by a buddy who lives two blocks away...... "I know that's you playing bass, I can hear you from my house!"
