Big E Speakers Part 4 - Quadraphenia

The switches are to turn the tweeter on/off left and mids [EDIT]BOOST[/EDIT] on/off on the right.
The effect is quite subtle. It actually sounds great in any configuration.

It's an 18 Sound and yes, that is a Streamer 900. It sounds awesome with the PPE! Thanks!
I really like the footprint of the cab. Less wide, a bit taller and deeper.
It also has the wheels and handle which are nicely integrated into the design. But it is a relatively light cab as well.
Hey - that's a much more convenient location for the switches than on the back!
No Tom. I don't even have a bathroom scale. But I thought I read somewhere that it was like 54 pounds, or somewhere in that neighborhood.
My MAS112LPT Essential showed up unexpectedly yesterday morning too. Good thing I was home and wasn't in the shower.
Mine is the basic black stripped down version with just the 3012HO woofer and a switchable 2kHz filter. It's got a surprising amount of midrange though and will be perfect for my old school tonal preferences. I played with the switch setting and couldn't really hear much difference, but I'm running at relatively low levels at home. I've got a 30 watt Ashdown tube amp that I'm anxious to try with it soon too.

I'm interested to know how the Walkabout pushes this cab. I have a Walkabout and love the thing in some ways, but it's been supplanted in recent usage by higher wattage heads. It pushed my old, 4 Ohm 2x12" cab pretty well, but even then I'd run out of headroom on the really loud stuff. My 8 Ohm MAS 112 is too big a wagon (electrically speaking) for the little Walkabout to pull very fast.My MAS112LPT Essential showed up unexpectedly yesterday morning too. I've only had 1/2 hour this weekend to play through it, so it's not broken in yet and I don't really have enough to report on, but so far I'm pretty happy with it. I didn't know what to expect for the midrange performance, but it's really nice. I can get plenty of bite if desired and like any BigE it's got great low end clarity. I know I'll end up tweaking the EQ a little differently, but I'll wait until the woofer is broken in more.
The thing on top is a Peterson StroboPlus HD tuner/metronome. I was going to get a Strobostomp tuner, but they're twice the price with less features.
Congrats you two. These cabs will amaze you. The bigger the space and the more coals you pour on, the greater Mike's cabs sound. I of course can't comment on the LPT re pushing it. I have never even begun to hear the limits of my original 4x8 with Mike's special order Eminence drivers. Outdoor gigs covered without a sign of stress. And the 4x6 amazes me at bar gigs of moderate size. I was impressed by the output Coyoteboy got from his 2x6 at the Boulder Creek GTG playing his EUB. Looks like a bookshelf speaker for music play back. Hardly. Great products

Very cool new placement of the voicing switches! And that purple is bitchin!
Had the MA109 out again this weekend at a small wine bar. Blues, Old Rock and Roll, even a Ska tune all on upright. The 109 really likes slap bass. The 3" mids give a great click off the board, low end is great of course and clear!

On Buffalo Bob's the one switch is tweeter on/off. The other is midrange boost or flat.
Yeah--it dawned on me that the switches would work well in that location. To be honest---the wave guide that empties the waves from the back to the horn/ports is the bane of my existence. There is so much pressure and velocity going on there that I want to get as much out of there as possible. This way I get a straight run of cable right into the driver/crossover area Rear jacks are now round recessed Speakons. They're close to the top edge on the 5's and 6" based cabinets.I'm now using very thick cardboard tubes(behind the jacks) made for crazy fireworks.Rather than having exposed wires with a potential for unwanted turbulence they're inside the 1" inner diameter by 3/16 thick walls. They mount between panels and have extra space to put a little bit of slack in there. They actually act as a brace between panels, too
Rick---I was hoping you'd lilke the LPT.Even without the tweeter it sounds nice. It goes pretty clean to 4 khz. I used a parametric to bring up the upper mids and treble and it worked well While it doesn't go as loud as the other 112'[s it's no slouch. The upper bass through the mids are really great. Duke hipped me to them. He uses the same Eminence woofer in an uber pricey hifi cab. He told me that with the filter we can take a bit of a midrange peak down if desired. It's not as deep and low as the other 112's--but it's pretty damn close Punchier and faster.
Finishing Nomatics 110 sub tomorrow. He loves the sub with the 66. I just built up a 66 for myself. I'll try it tomorrow with the sub
