Seven days or less until I'm manipulating the waves in my vortex. Commence countdown...

Yes, I'm excited! See - I'm beside myself: :hyper: :hyper:

That's just funny right there! You are in for a treat if Mike and company have put my awesome 4x8 "on hold", it's because these 10lf cabs are even better. Gotta hear one some day. Make sure you consolidate your split personality when it arrives:)

So true. I expected to be in the market at least 6 months ago. Been a long tough slog for all of us involved. Just about there.

I admire the persistence and patience of all four mad (in the best of ways!) scientists involved in this endeavor. It has been very edifying to watch the designs morph through the refinement process. It takes time to implement all of the new ideas that keep bubbling up and see/hear how they work. Then figuring out an efficient work flow to build the final (? ;)) product. It's a tough job, but I'm glad that you guys are willing to do it! :D

Temp Banned (TOS Violation)

I hope the moderators communicate with you about whatever the violation is, because I know that you really try to live by the house rules. I broke the TOS rules and they communicated with me very clearly, which I appreciate.

It's not my place to speculate of course, but I don't remember seeing you do anything that I haven't done at some point in the course of conversation on the thread about my products. So I really hope they communicate with you.

I understand the need for policing a well regulated website lest it deteriorate into a slugfest free for all.
I assume this is merely a distinction re a commercial user who pays more fees to post here like Rocket music etc, vs folks not paying those fees. I hope it gets cleared up because this is an emerging concept that is indeed something unique, and I am an owner that subscribed to this thread to see what's up recently. TB mods have to do their job to prevent anarchy, and maintain compliance for the benefit of us all. A simple solution for BigE that has worked for countless others would be surrogate posters that are members, and owners/boosters of the product line doing the fronting. I won't name product names but there are cab builders who never post here but their friends and associates and sometimes authorized builders do the promoting w/o any spankings. Again this is not a criticism of mods god bless them , no doubt under, or uncompensated . I appreciate a well regulated website vs a Rant and roll site where you have huge masses of BS to wade through. I still want to hear all that the BigE builders have to offer though. Hope this gets resolved soon.

I also feel that Mike's representation of his businesses is less advertising than it is tech information backed by enthusiasm. It feels like talking to the research and development part of a company more than management or advertising. I agree with Downderwonder. Having to get all that information from a shill would be much more annoying. Maybe he ran afoul of the technical aspects of a rule, but I highly doubt he would have committed an act against the spirit of it.

+1

1) I am a customer of Mike's.

2) My knowledge of him and his products has been only through this forum, and for this I'm grateful.

3) As a number of folks have written, it's just stunning to be able to watch the creation and evolution in the flesh, as it were, not only of BigE, but Greenboy's and Fitzmaurice's and Duke's designs, as well. Further, fdeck's speaker physics tutorial and HPF were born here, more or less. (My apologies to those I've not named.)

4) The point of all this is, I guess, don't let the letter of the law trample the creative spirit of TB. (Tho' it's unclear which letter, if any, has been crossed out.)

+1 again.

I am not (yet) a customer of Mike's, though I've had the pleasure to visit with him twice in two years and to correspond with him a few times on cabs and bass-related matters. I've always found him to be decent and straightforward. I appreciate the latter quality particularly.

I know that the forum mods have an often thankless job (good thing they're paid so extravagantly). Browsing other forums (fora?) I am thankful that they keep this one as civil as they do, and that, by and large, we're able openly to discuss things bass-related here, without mob-mentality (on the one hand) or a vociferous or privileged few (on the other) exercising an undue influence. That's a tough balance to try to maintain, and I appreciate their efforts and those of many forum participants here that way.

I also realize that when you have someone who produces and sells a product discussing it in a public forum that there are bound to be gray areas.

I'd ask folks to remember, though, that almost everything Mike has said here has been, directly or indirectly, in response to queries from forum members. That he believes in his work, shares in the development process, and is enthusiastic about it -- I don't see a problem with that. The first (since deleted) Big E thread was started by me when I couldn't find much about them on the web -- certainly not much from other bass players. Mike never even mentioned working with them 'til I started that thread and referenced him specifically (that vid on youtube where he walks around a 4x8 cab). I regret not saying something back then.

The cabs have caught on now and have their vocal supporters, but there's nothing inherently wrong with that, either.

The mods are, I'm sure, more aware of the rules and what it takes to keep things running than I, but I hope they take the above into consideration and they communicate clearly with Mike, if it's believed that he's crossed some line -- or wandered into some gray area -- and give him a chance to move forward. I'd be sad to see him unable to post here or discuss his work with the cabs openly.

I stopped by Mike's place yesterday and have good news. The moderators are communicating with him and he was only banned for a week. I got to hear a bunch of what seems to be the final versions of the cabs and crossovers. The crossovers are impressive with frozen juice can sized caps and big, heavy wire torroidal chokes. Quality stuff. The 45's I still think have the sweetest most elegant sound I have heard, but when you pair them with a 10" sub, you get that sound plus enough low end and output to compete with any 3015 based cab or a good 4x10. A couple of chages to the 45 make it push the sound up towards your head and seem to make it slightly more efficient. Amazingly portable and flexible with the two @ 30 lb. cabs. The Flex 2x6.5 and 10" sub is still very portable @ 50 lbs. and smaller than I thought it would be. The switching system on this cab is magic! Without touching any EQ, you cab to get an accurate reproduction, to my ear, of an old 2x15 cab and by flipping the switches, get a clean studio monitor and many different sounds in between, including a grindy sort of sound that would be great for distortion. The high end can be crisp and clean or subdued, but always sweet and musical. Move the switches and it can go from mid forward to a great scooped slap sound. Seems to me to be about as loud as the 45 + 10" sub, but can get more aggressive. Now for the frightening part. The 2x10. The mids and tweeter and switching system are similar to the 1x10 only with two tweeters so it is as flexible as the 1x10 but the output of this cab is insane. The low end end feels like it could crack your sternum, but it still sounds sweet and clear. Mike turn it way up and beat on my Precision and my hearing started cutting out. I have never heard a single cab that has this much output , including my fridge and any high end 4x10. All of these cabs sound wonderful and have that incredable Big E projection and ability to sound huge with out getting boomy. Best sound I've heard.

You would think after all these years I would learn how to write and spell, but no. I almost forgot, the 2x10 I tried had no bracing in the ports. I touched the sides of the cab at high volume and they seemed to be moving as much as the 10. With bracing I think the low could have been even better.
