Biggest jerks in music

I emailed Billy Sheehan once a long time ago to joke with him about a column he wrote in BP mag a while ago and he emailed right back, he seemed very cool. Also, I like Kid Rock in spite of myself, I always thought I would hate him but I watched one of videos and I thought it kicked butt. I also think that POD are good guys.
So many jerks and so little time. Here is my list:
1. Micheal Jackson- I could overlook the the apparant gender and race transformation but the little kiddie sleep overs are just flat out sick and wrong
2. Axl Rose- he used to smack around his Victoria Secret model girlfriend and shoot heroin- nuf said
3. Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and any other female singer that would have the gall to refer to themselves as a diva
4. Courtney Love- there is medicene out the that she should be taking
5. Jennifer Lopez- refers to herself indignantly as a "good girl" in a recent interview but fails to explain why then her CD's are replete with a Parental Advisory, seems hypocritical
6. I thought that the expulsion of Sammy Hagar from Van Halen was classless and mean. These guys were a band for eight years and they should have had the common sense and decency to treat each other good after all those years...... although that certainly does'nt mean Sammy was blameless
7. Tommy Lee- drop the ##!!## fake street talk garbage, but aside from that and slapping around his ex wife I think he seems like a low life

Some time ago, I read an interview of Jeff Berlin, where he said he had been proposed to play bass with VH, and that he had refused, regarding to his long-time friendship with Michael Anthony.

If this is true, this tends to mean that Jeff Berlin is a very kind guy, and that EVH is not as much... Can you imagine VH without Michael Anthony ? Though VH is not my cup of tea, Mike is a GREAT bass player. Sammy Hagar is a great singer, too.

Just my opinion, as usual...

Maybe this thread should have been "People in Music Who You KNOW Are Jerks"???

So many of these judgements are based on things in the press, etc. and it's widely known that the press will distort anything for a good story. You have to wonder how many of these things are completely without merit?

Now, surely, there are those with such a long track record that it couldn't be denied, but over all maybe a little thought should go into that before a person is classed as a "jerk".

Well...when you see these people in recorded interviews saying the same thing again and again....and video clips of actual things they do....

For me Bruce Springsteen & his bathroom fiasco tour ranks right on top of the list. I'm pretty sure canceling on his fans will never change anything politically... but it may cost him some fans.
(PS- I'm not, nor have I ever been a Bruce fan)

Miles was his own man and anyone who can't dig that is going to be disappointed. I met Charles Mingus once, he immediately told me to F&&k off. Maybe he was having a bad day, he was playing great that night however.

Regardless of the musical genre, these 'famous' guys are just like many other musicians, they have work to do and worries to keep in check, gigs to secure. Many I've met are very outgoing and pleasant on stage but introverted off stage. Most, by the time they have any fame at all, have been taken advantage of, cheated, mistreated and generally put in positions that didn't care to deal with. A lot of times the 'jerk' attitudes are just personal protections for themselves.

Did some part time security at an outdoor music venue and wound up working back stage at a Whitney Houston show. Part of the promo was a local radio station ran a contest and the winners got free VIP passes which included a meet and greet with Houston. I'm just a fly on the wall as she runs around treating her staff and anyone else foolish enough to catch her attention, like crap, a real a-hole. Anywho, some guy from the radio station comes back to set up the meet and greet and she goes ballistic for a few minutes, then tells the guy to bring the fornicators in and let's get this doodoo over with. The winners are brought in and Whitney was all sweetness and light, thanking them for coming, taking photos with them and autographing stuff. As soon as they were ushered out she went right back to female dog mode.

I watched Tinsley Ellis fire his keyboard player because he asked about getting on the road as he needed to get back to ATL as quickly as possible. Ellis was trying to pick up some guys wife and when the keyboard guy asked him about heading back he told him to get his doodoo out of the van and find his own fornicating way back to Atlanta, and find another fornicating job while you're at it.

Why do you say that? He answered all of the questions honestly with some thought behind them. He didn't forget the interviewer's name, but addressed him by name a few times. He compared the Godin to his other guitars and seemed to like the others better. He admitted that he has a larger library of material to draw from than many of us do, and wants to prioritize his projects. He also made it clear that he prefers to get to know his bandmates as people rather than as inanimate objects that perform music. How does any of that give you the impression he's condescending? Was it telling the interviewer that before he was born the Mahavishnu Orchestra was old? He's not lying. When you get to be that age and have that many accomplishments, you travel in different circles than most of us and maybe don't relate as well. He didn't seem like a real jerk to me.

I will give these celebs some slack I couldn't be famous. If you stopped and talked to everyone who wanted to meet you, get a picture, and autograph you couldn't get anything done. I think I would pretty fast if I couldn't go to the store without people wanting my autograph I would snap. I grew up in Maine Stephen King lives in Bangor and in the town there's a rule don't bother him or ask for an autograph he won't do it. It's easy to forget these people who you idolize are human they have bad days and like anyone else need space.

With that said Ted Nugent is a racist POS.

EVH for one I will give it to him he changed the game for the eighties however he is not the best guitarist at that time or ever like he thinks. If you slow down some of his shredding riffs he is playing jibberish. He sticks with the same formula he isn't a guitar god so many people have him beat. He just happened to be at the right place at the right time. But what gets me is its been thirty years and he won't stop harassing Mike Anthony. Mikes over it, everyone was over it twenty nine years ago. He must be incredible petty and pretentious. I mean you have to be if you still hold a grudge that long.

Phil Anselmo another racist POS. Doesn't matter how good pantera is he is racist has said ignorant stuff for years and is finally getting held accountable.

Lars yeah this guy sues napster and forgets he got where he is because of tape trading. Sharing music for free that's what made all those thrash bands big. Also he is a horrible drummer and clearly greedy.

Wow no Kanye, I will start off by saying I think he is suffering. His mother was a huge support for him personally and musicially. Apparently after she died his ego inflated. I think she kept him in check and not to mention he is probably hurting.

I am actually going to stick up for Gene Simmons a little. Does Gene have an ego? You bet. However I watched a video of him getting a lesson from Carol Kaye and he showed a lot of respect and humility. His ego wasn't there and it looked like he enjoyed playing bass and learning which was cool.

Axl, I don't even want to talk about him it's all been said.

Dave Mustaine, you can see by his constant rotation of band mates he is difficult. I like megadeth and do think he is a solid guitarist. He could just hire guys to support him like a solo act but the problem is his leads are pretty weak and it's good he does hire strong lead players to fill that void. So with that said he should have some humility and respect for band mates apparently he is a control freak and on a power trip.
