Biker night gig in Texas last night

Back in the 80's I was stationed at Luke AFB outside of Phoenix. We were in a local dive, the place was empty except for us 4 guys. In walked about a dozen bikers, their colors said Deadmen Southwest. We thought we were dead men! The head honcho comes up to us and says, " you boys in the military?" We said yes sir we are. Well he smiled and said free beer for you guys, don't even try to buy one! We spent several hours playing pool and drinking beer with them. I surely wouldn't want to be on their bad side but they were good to us.

Or maybe not. Opinions vary. We all, or most of us play the bass. We don't all agree on things and many of us wouldn't like many of us. This here internet often leads people to believe there is a "community" of this or that.

I don't believe that.

You're right that there are undoubtedly many different views represented here, and that many of us would dislike each other outside of TB. However, there is a community here, centered around discussing the practice and craft of playing the bass. Such a community has goods intrinsic to it, goods that are protected by avoiding discussion of divisive issues unrelated to the practice of playing bass.

That is something you would have to take up with the administrators of this forum.

I will say that "topics" are seldom found in nature and conversations in meat space have a dynamic flow. No one knows where things will go.

There has to be room for discussion and differing opinions. There is nothing to be gained by hearing only from people who agree with you.

Having run licensed pubs and clubs for over 20 years i'm not a fan of the 1%-er outlaw bikers and the aggressive intimidation some of them use when they descend en-mass on a pub or other public place. I've had to deal with many of them over the years and had a few close calls.

In saying that, in my early 20's i was running a stripping company. We provided strippers for bucks parties, pubs, birthday's etc etc etc. I used to accompany girls to gigs all the time and can say for certain that I had more problems with blokes being touchy or aggressive at businessmen's lunches than at any biker party or clubhouse. The bikers were always polite with the girls and very friendly with me. At some of these I think the blokes were more afraid of their own girlfriends or wives than anything else.

This is more about having a familiarity with the rules of the adult entertainment industry than having a moral foundation.

Besides, when the best you can say about a group is they don't excessively fondle their strippers, there isn't that much good to be said. If they were out building Habitats for Humanity, choosing a good example of moral clarity might be easier.

Though I won't vouch for the morals of their counterpart 1% of businessmen either, they just tend to **** people in different ways.

I agree wholeheartedly on all counts. And it is probably the best I can say for any of the 1% outlaw bikers in general.

I've met some bikers who were great people. I've met some that were racist a-holes, who bully and intimidate people. It takes all kinds.

I was driving back from a gig in north east Texas, and we drove right past the aftermath, which was mostly tons of cops all over the side of the highway and overpasses with big assault rifles. Had no idea what was going on at the time. Just stupid,,, and not much more to say about it.

As far as Texas goes, don't be jealous because my state is bigger than yours. (no one from Alaska on TB, right?)

Just because Waco has given us David Koresh and a Biker "Gang" fight doesn't mean we need to go all "Oust Texas from the States!". Ugh. Actually DO some Homework (not just the nightly news, but maybe Actual Government Websites?) and find out that Texas has LESS CRIME than A LOT of other places. With WAY MORE Guns, Even. If you want to Argue the fact, I invite you to spend a Night in Chicago.

I was in Alaska last week. Five days in Fairbanks is five days. There you have it.

I used to play rugby. When it comes to people descending on a bar, 60 muddy, ornery, scuffed up rugby players can be pretty disruptive. I suspect we were looked on with about the same level of affection as 1%er bikers. We always drank a whole lot of beer and always paid for it, too. The difference is that rival clubs only tried to kill each other during the match. Afterwards, we all drank beer together and sang obnoxious songs, poorly.

Third Stone South played for The Road Barons all over East Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas when they had their Chapter President elections and we had the time of our life. Never felt threatened or out of place once but then again Ima redneck. They housed us, fed us, crazy paid us, got us laid. We didn't have to ask of anything, other than B strings (guitarist).

Bikers are kinda like cops nowa daze. Lotta bad stuff hits the airwaves but underneath theres alotta stuff happening that is not only non-abrasive to squares but can be beneficial to society as well but nobody see that side of it on acct of the fact that The Machine sells fear.

Squares? The Machine? lol....

No, they really aren't like cops. The folks who justify the mafia say this kinda stuff too. As do the folks who justify every kind of criminal gang.

Replacing the gangs you happen to fear with ones that happen to let you be isn't really an improvement overall. By justifying one you justify all of them. Every kind of gang. It just depends on a person's POV as to which are 'street gangs' and which are 'beneficial.'
