Biker night gig in Texas last night

Played a biker night at a local bar last night here in Texas.
And guess what?
NOTHING HAPPENED

That's it.

(Well, we made some booties move, but that's it.)

I posted this because everyone seems a little weird after the Waco thing (which was obviously a bad thing by itself). However, it doesn't imply a problem with bikers in general and I get annoyed at the FUD that's going around.

I love biker gigs! Have done several, from bars to a big outdoor weekend rally, and even a biker wedding! Never had a hint of a problem. They are mostly pussycats (but I wouldn't advise being a jerk).

I remember playing a biker bar back in the day, where they danced and sweated. A big guy, leader of the pack type up front closest to the stage wiped his face and flicked it on me, 3feet away. I turned away, had a towel for wiping down my axe, was angry but could do nothing about it, aka nothing happened.

Yup. Today's "biker" is a baby boomer with a full-time professional job, house in the suburbs, and a $30k custom Harley that he rides on the weekend.

I've played a couple biker gigs here in Washington state. They're generally a good time, but they can go south pretty quickly if a rival gang shows up. I've been lucky enough not to have that happen, but at a place where these types of gigs happens frequently, on a night we weren't playing thankfully, a fist fight broke out which turned into a gun fight, and was followed up by a gang member returning and planting an improvised explosive device (read: pipe bomb) in the building after the cops cleared everyone out for the night. Major damage, a lot of people injured, no one killed, but still... Scary stuff. That event, even though I wasn't there, made me take biker gigs off of my radar. It's probably a non-issue 99.99% of the time, but I don't see the risk being worth the reward at this point.

Wrong those guys are "motorcycle enthusiasts" I've played most of the MC's in my area and were always treated great. Prospects roading for us, etc. Done more charity events with MC's than any other group by far.

I was a biker and my band also played biker gigs in Seattle. Most of us were RUBS (Rich Urban Bikers), but the "rich" part is relative and subjective. But yeah, Pussycats. And no small number of posers and wimps.

Yeah, but do you have the same gun in different wood combinations, exotic inlayed stocks, and interchangeable barrels?
As long as you spend more time deciding which bass rather than which gun to bring to the gig, you're probably doing okay.

Bass playin' out at the bars and some other places has always been a risky profession and poopie happens. You are dealing with all sorts of people drinking, possibly using drugs plus lots of people are carrying handguns these days. I played in a bar and 2 rival motorcycle gangs had a very bad fight and started grabbing our equipment to beat each other. You can have fights, jealous boyfriends, damage or theft of your gear and you can get a DUI on the way home if you have been drinking. Or you can get lucky with a woman who did not bother to tell you she was married. Interesting that we as bass players can help to excite people to get a little crazy with music. Bars and concert venues are not like a church, they are always potentially dangerous and be aware of that.

Speaking as a multiple gun owning Texan, and aside from it being a web portal and search engine I am not entirely certain just what a Yahoo is, I would have to say that the Biker brawl thing in Waco is no different than the gang fights / shootouts that happen all over the major cities across the nation, including in California...

Contrary to the opinions spread by the VERY biased California based media establishment, Texas isn't all cows, oil fields, and rednecks. Some of the nations largest urban areas are in Texas, including Houston (Nations 4th largest city), San Antonio (Nations 7th largest city), Dallas (Nations 9th largest city), Fort Worth (Nations 17th largest), El Paso (Nations 19th largest). Texas matches California for the number of major cities in the nations top 20 (4 each).
