Biker night gig in Texas last night

The majority of bikers that i run into are arseholes who make their bikes loud and dress in borderline s&m outfits who didn't get enough attention from their mommy or daddy so they ride around town like this going " look at me! "
Try acting like badasses but are mostly just pathetic losers.
Ruins it for the small minority who just enjoy riding a motorcycle.

I've played hundreds of Biker gigs in the last 4decades only been scared for my life once. Had friends in the Angels save me from a deranged civilian once and played at Angels clubhouses several times. One the most interesting gigs was for the San Francisco Motorcycle Police Club at their clubhouse on Hunters Point where a member came up to the stage while we were setting up and said directly to me " if you don't play some Country music tonite I'm going to pull put my 45 and blow a bunch of holes through you amps" we played some country. Another time a member of the same SF club gave me his business card. He used to come to our gigs at Fishermans Warfe all the time. He was a Seargent and hostage negotiator and the guy that talked down the gunman in a high rise in SF in the 70s. On the back of his card he signed it and wrote "please extend the courtesy" and told me if I ever got in trouble in SF county to tell them to call him and he would take care of it. So I would say I've had more good experiences than bad by a long shot. But I do have a lot more stories that I won't tell here!

I played the local clubhouse before, it is great. You want to talk about respect, be inside the building. If you bumped into a 350 pound biker, he would apologize for being in the way.

Mind you, an open event where multiple MCs show up is a very different experience. I wouldn't go if I knew rival clubs were going.

Some of my first gigs were at biker bars before I was even old enough to drink. These were seriously rowdy bikers, at bars so far off the main drag it was more like a private club. We also did a few gigs at a motorcycle shop. I was lucky to have walked away without being raped (seriously...I later found out a guy I went to high school with was, by the same crowd). This one guy came up to me, put his arms around me, and just started talking about how much he used to love going down on his wife, but now she's older and has uncontrollable gas. My friend's older brother was a local hell's Angels leader so I guess there was a little bit of protection. Mind you, the band was a folky alternative 90s band with a girl singer with punk rock dyed hair....we REALLY didn't fit it. We were well received but many derogatory words were passed around, not so under their breath.

I've met a lot of different bikers in my life and most were not of this persuasion. Right now I attend a church where the pastor is the head of the local chapter of CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association).

Actually, the real bikers are much nicer than the pretend bikers. The real bikers don't have anything to prove. If you are going to ride in those circles you need to know the rules.

If you are just playing for them, you just follow one rule, you'll be OK - don't be a dick. Breaking that rule can get you a solid ass-whipping from a real biker. If you are going to ride, and rub elbows with them, you better learn the rest of the rules fast.

I grew up around bikers. Most are genuinely nice guys who really would do anything for you. As said several times already, be respectful and you won't have any issues.

The whole Waco shootout thing is very interesting. From what I read, tensions had been rising there for sometime and local authorities kept tabs on the place even asking the bar owner to shut down biker night for a while to allow the gangs to cool down. He didn't and things got out of control. That type of situation can happen anywhere at anytime, not just in Texas or with bikers.

One band I was in would play for the bikers sometimes. We have a few clubs around here that are nationwide with some very sketchy track records anyhow one show was an anniversary for their club and these guys made it real clear that we better not play any Allman Bros.

Another time the police raided the scene and arrested one for a murder warrant. I'd met the guy during the set break and had a drink at the bar with him about twenty minutes before the law showed up. You never know who's out there, in person or in the head.

In order to understand what happened in Waco, you have to have an understanding of 1 percenter's. And I expect more of these with the rise in Vet's and poverty we have now. No disrespect. That's how the 1 percent started

I just don't understand what the big deal is... Bikers??? They've always been nice to me.
