Is the cover at the end of the neck just decorative or does it actually cover up anything?
It hides the edge of the neck pocket route, in cases where there is no neck pickup.
He's been known to put the occasional thumb-rest in that spot too.
Hey everyone. Not sure if this is the right place, but nice I've seen SD Curlee basses mentioned here, I thought I'd share that I just put a downpayment on an SD Curlee bass!
Specs:
Standard 78 model (w the cream Dimarzio P pickup)
Left handed
Walnut body
German carve on the body
Pretty simple but an elegant look I think and a great sound. Scott had posted on his website that he had room for 2 Standard 78 builds in his spring 21 schedule so I took the plunge. Now the wait begins.

If I hadn't just received my new Birdsong 2+ months ago, I'd be jealous. The Spring '21 curlees were definitely on my interest-radar.

Yup, that number is specific to the Curlee line. The Cortobass and it's varieties are up over 400 now.
I've got a five string coming in due time. Number 94 on the site.

I hope Scott gets to work on some of those Cortos, too. I've had #424 (Corto 2) on the books since last summer, but #412 has been the highest number Corto in the builds the whole time.
I've gotten very interested. How would folks describe the neck profile? And is the squaring off an inch or so from the body noticable when you play?

Historically, the neck profile was a bit of a "soft V" and rounding out as you move up the neck to the higher frets. On my newest Birdsong (a 2020 - my 2nd newest is a 2014/15), I've noticed that the "soft V" is more soft than in earlier builds. Still the same basic profile - it combines the 1.5" nut width with "back of the neck fills the hand nicely" so you don't get too cramped curling fingers around it.
I don't notice the squaring-off unless I'm goofing around on solo stuff at home (and rarely even then). I actually find it somewhat helpful if I'm trying to navigate the underneath clear up above the 22nd fret.
A very soft V would be fine. And I do like it flattening out higher up.

He isn't taking custom orders currently - he's trying to dig out of the existing orders and was uncomfortable with the constantly growing wait time (a nice problem to have). But historically, 50% down payment.

He isn't taking orders right now, but it's usually half down. I'm noticing less "V" in my last couple necks, they seem to be slightly rounder these days.....very comfortable.
